A First Look at Little Nightmares III’s Necropolis

Hello, dear children. It has been quite a while, hasn’t it?

For those of you who (barely) survived the previous nightmares, we’re incredibly pleased to welcome you back to our twisted world of darkest dreams. It’s time to return to the Nowhere.

We know many of you have already tackled the Maw or the Pale City, but we are going somewhere new this time… Let’s take a first look at Little Nightmares III, shall we?

Some of you may already have guessed it! For the first time in the franchise’s history, online co-op will be available for those who wish to face their childhood fears with a friend. You’ll also have the choice to play solo and overcome these terrors with the help of an AI companion.

You’ll play as Low and Alone, two determined children seeking an escape out of this distorted world. Using Low’s bow and arrows and Alone’s wrench, you’ll need to survive through many new and dangerous challenges…

The game begins in the desolate desert city of the Necropolis, a giant ruin overflowing with windmills, sails and other wind-powered mechanisms that continue to turn under their own power. The Necropolis is said to be a city of eternal energy, but also of certain death… its original inhabitants, the Dwellers, are no more.

What happened to them, you may wonder? The stones and the crows are keeping mum, but during their explorations, our two new Visitors may dig up some of the secrets hidden by wind-blown sand.

The first threat lurking about The Necropolis is Monster Baby, a new Resident whose eye swivels in its socket as her gaze pulses with menace. The nature of her intentions is quite unclear, but the danger is certain. Her size and clumsiness are daunting, and no one gets to toddle through her playground without her having her share of fun. Our recommendation is to treat this game of hide and seek as if it were life or death.

There are other hazards hidden in this dead metropolis. You’ll also find that more than crows have come to nest in what was left behind by the Dwellers.

That was just a small sneak peek into your next nightmare, little one. We can’t wait to show you more…

Little Nightmares III will be released on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One in 2024.

Wait, don’t leave just yet. There’s something else we’d like you to hear.

We’re also releasing a new original story set in the Little Nightmares universe with a podcast series called “The Sounds of Nightmares.”

The podcast follows the story of Noone, a young girl who has increasingly vivid and disturbing dreams that she seeks help addressing in private therapy sessions. Otto, her Counselor, is sympathetic, but the events in Noone’s nightmares seem to parallel his hidden past…

Episodes 1 and 2 are available now on your favorite podcatcher app, and one new episode will be released each week to complete the 6-episode series.
