A Never-Ending Nightmare Haunts South Town in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves

    • Yasuyuki Oda, Producer, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves

    Summary

    • Nightmare Geese, South Town’s former emperor, is back haunting it asthe latest character in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves.
    • Geese’s visual design and moves harken back to his appearances in the beginning of the series.
    • The Fatal Fury x Street Fighter crossover continues in Round 3, with new costumes, EOST mode missions, and more.

Nightmare Geese, the former emperor of South Town, is revered by some, reviled by others, and targeted for revenge by a hungry few—a legend in his own right, even in the afterlife. Though no longer of this world, the horrors of Geese Howard remain a bane to all who knew him. His legacy is a testament to the power of one terrible truth: legends never die. His nightmare lives on…

A New Design That Blends Nostalgia with a Sinister Edge

The design of City of the Wolves’ Nightmare Geese takes inspiration from the original Fatal Fury. Fans who remember what Geese looked like in the early days of the series will find many callbacks and nostalgic references in his new design.

Details such as his gold necklace and gold wristwatch stand out as particularly striking visual elements.  His move animations have also been created from the ground up to match with City of the Wolves’ art style. Classic techniques like Reppuu ken and Raging Storm are back and look better than ever, ensuring that this version of Geese maintains the essence that long-time fans will recognize.

    Nightmare Geese’s Battle Style

Nightmare Geese debuted in Real Bout Fatal Fury Special (1997) as a ghostly manifestation of the nightmarish horror that was, and is, the late Geese Howard. The now-ethereal emperor of South Town is both ominous and oppressive in battle, exuding an intensity that will leave hapless challengers struggling to keep up. Unleash sinister powers new and old, from his signature Reppuu Ken to Jaei Ken, in adrenaline-charged contests that only City of the Wolves can deliver.

Here are some of his moves!

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves - Nightmare Geese Moves

    Shippuu Ken

Fires a projectile diagonally downward while in the air. It can be used as a starting point for offense from a forward jump, or as a check when performed from a neutral jump. The Rev version can also be used from a back jump and fires two projectiles instead, giving it excellent utility that makes it easy to use both offensively and defensively.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves - Nightmare Geese Moves

    Hisyou Nichirin Zan

After jumping forward, Geese swings a knifehand strike downward. When used to pass over the opponent, it can function as a cross-up attack, making it effective as a surprise option from hard-to-contest positions.

    Joudan Atemi Nage

A technique that counters an opponent’s attack, it can catch aerial attacks and high-hitting moves, but cannot counter low attacks such as sweeps, so be careful! Try to make effective use of the low counter throw or the Rev version’s mid counter throw by reading the opponent’s movement patterns.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves - Nightmare Geese Moves

    Fudou Ken

Geese attacks by delivering a palm heel strike from a stance. It can branch into a variety of follow-up moves, making it useful for combos as well as for mixing up the opponent’s guard with mid and low options. When a Rev follow-up is performed, you can use a Rev Accel to continue with additional attacks, so be sure to remain aware of follow-up opportunities for this move ‑up moves, making it useful for combos as well as for mixing up the opponent’s guard with mid and low options.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves - Nightmare Geese Moves

    Raimei Gouha Nage

Geese grabs the opponent and slams them into the ground. It can grab opponents while they are in an attackable stage on the ground , such as after knocking them down by holding Fudou Ken: Un. By using the Rev version, the opponent will bounce, allowing you to follow up with additional attacks to deal more damage.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves - Nightmare Geese Moves

    Explosion Ball

Geese grabs the opponent, launches them into the air, and follows up with a fireball attack. It is effective for breaking through opponents who are turtling behind their guard. Use it to throw off the opponent’s rhythm by grabbing fighters who have become hesitant to act after worrying about Fudou Ken or a counter throw‑up with a fireball attack.

Of course, all of these moves can be used together in combos to try and deliver as much damage as possible! Rev Explosion Ball can be linked into Rev Reppuu Ken for an extremely damaging combo. Experiment yourself and see what you can find!
