Ubisoft has sparked debate by showing off its new Ghostwriter tool, an “AI” designed to aid its writers create dialogue for in-game NPCs. Ghostwriter was demoed on stage at GDC this week by Ubisoft researcher Ben Swanson, who stated the tool was designed for use with background dialogue, barks (generic lines from NPCs triggered by the player), and descriptions for the game’s user interface. According to Game Developer, which attended the GDC session, Swanson described the tool as like a “30,000-sided die” which could be rolled to build sentences based on an initial input combined with a modifier, with machine…

The second episode of the Resident Evil 4 anime has arrived, and dare I say it, it is better than the first. Following on from Leon’s arrival in the village, this next episode – known as “A promise between the two” – starts with a rather sweet moment between Leon and Ashley. Leon presses the importance of Ashley staying close to him, and in turn Ashley promises that she will. Smash cut to Ashley not exactly doing that. I won’t spoil the short clip for you. Instead, please take a moment to enjoy the next part of this glorious marketing…
Netflix’s live-action Gears of War movie is now one step closer to becoming a reality following the news Dune and Doctor Strange screenwriter Jon Spaihts has been hired to handle the script. Netflix announced it had acquired the rights to adapt Gear of War into movie last November, following earlier unsuccessful attempts by New Line Cinema to get a live-action adaptation off the ground. That version, first trumpeted in 2007, had abandoned all pretence of being set in the game’s universe by 2019, when the project became permanently stuck in development hell. Netflix, however, has specifically described its version as…
Breath still bated for more information on developer Insomniac’s upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man 2? Well it looks like we might now have a release month thanks to Venom actor Tony Todd, who – almost certainly without official approval – has claimed it’ll be arriving this September. Todd – whose prolific career has included roles in the likes of Platoon, Candyman, and Final Destination – was announced to be voicing Venom in Spider-Man 2 back in September 2021, at the same time Insomniac confirmed Yuri Lowenthal and Nadji Jeter would be returning to voice Peter Parker and Miles Morales respectively. Since then,…

Morbius’ DLC release is officially known as The Hunger and sees the character – who comes equipped with 11 unique Hero Abilities and the laboratory Abbey upgrade – teaming up with the Midnight Suns…
Not bragging, but on our street, today is bin day, and I celebrated by standing for ten minutes or so at the bedroom window while a stray yogurt carton ran up and down the path outside our house. It sounds a bit American Beauty, I know, but actually it was a brisk delight. The wind properly animated this yogurt carton, finding a real comic character for it as it batted back and forth along the paving. To be honest, it was a bit of a wrench to leave it and do the school run. How Tchia, I thought afterwards. Tchia…
The story trailer for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has arrived, giving us a closer look at some of Cal Kestis’ traversal techniques as well as some familiar faces. Those familiar faces are Merrin and Greez, albeit with new looks (after all, Survivor takes place five years after the events of Fallen Order). Merrin has a new hairstyle, while Greez has a new arm. Additionally, this trailer shows us Cal using his ascension cable for climbing and crossing, as well as the young Jedi visiting the ecumenopolis planet of Coruscant. And, of course, there is plenty of lightsaber and blaster action…

More than 400 Twitch employees have lost their jobs as part of a further round of layoffs at parent company Amazon. Amazon announced another 9,000 job cuts – in addition to the 18,000 layoffs it made in January – earlier today, with new Twitch CEO Dan Clancy confirming 400 employees at the streaming company would be affected by the decision. As reported by Polygon, however, Twitch did not inform those impacted by the layoffs ahead of today’s announcement. Instead, Clancy told employees in an all-staff email that everyone affected will be informed “no later than early next week”. Read more…
