Creative Assembly has confirmed the opening of a new UK development studio, Creative Assembly North. Headed up by Giselle Stewart OBE, the Newcastle studio will work “collaboratively” with Creative Assembly’s Sussex team on an unannounced project. As well as being the base of the company’s new Continuous Improvement Team, the new studio hopes to recruit over 100 developers in both creative and technical roles “over the coming years”. Blizzard has thanked players for their patience after some were left waiting in hour-long queues to participate in Diablo 4’s open beta test this weekend. In a statement posted to the game’s official forum, the community team assured players that it was “actively working” on the issues, vowing to “increase the influx of players” and reduce queue times once numerous disconnection issues had been addressed. Actor Lance Reddick – star of John Wick, The Wire, and Destiny – has died, aged 60. Reddick’s prolific acting career began in the mid-90s, spanning television – where he rose to prominence with starring roles in shows such as The Wire and Fringe – film, most notably in the John Wick franchise, and, in later years, video games. Reddick’s gaming roles included Martin Hatch in developer Remedy Entertainment’s 2016 action-adventure Quantum Break and Sylens in Guerrilla Games’ Horizon series. Layers of Fear – the somewhat confusingly named remake of developer Bloober Team’s psychedelic horror hits Layers of Fear and Layers of Fear 2 – has resurfaced with an 11-minute trailer showing off some of its gameplay changes and fancy new Unreal Engine 5 visuals. Team17 staff have reported a round of layoffs, as the Worms developer and indie game publisher seeks to restructure its business. Staff were told of the changes at 4pm this Friday afternoon in a mandatory all-hands meeting, those who were present told Eurogamer. A new Persona 5 spin-off game has been revealed, coming to mobile courtesy of Chinese developer Perfect World. Persona 5: The Phantom X will be a brand new game set in the same world as P5, with an original Phantom Thief group. The first patch for Kerbal Space Program 2 has landed, and it is filled with “approximately 300” changes. This update follows a rocky launch for KSP2, which saw a steep fall in player numbers soon after its release, with many asking for refunds. Storyteller, the Annapurna-Interactive-published puzzler from developer Daniel Benmergui, now has a release date and is launching for PC and Switch on 23rd March. Storyteller, which has been in development for quite some time now (Annapurna was first associated with it back in 2018), is described as a reactive puzzle game about building stories. Essentially, the idea is to build a coherent yarn across a page of comic-book-style panels, placing the appropriate characters, backgrounds, and plot devices to reach the specified outcome – which can range from tales of loves to stories of revenge and betrayal.
