Amazon has announced its massively multiplayer online RPG New World will be switching to a new seasonal release model – complete with a battle-pass-style Season Pass – from 28th March. To date, New World’s monetisation (after an initial full-price purchase) has largely be focused around a cosmetics-based premium shop but, from March, players will have the option to purchase the new Season Pass’ 100-tier paid reward track as part of a shift to a three-month seasonal release model. The original Angry Birds is being pulled from Google Play due to its business “impact” on developer Rovio’s other mobile games. On iPhone, Angry Birds will stay available – albeit under a new and instantly-forgettable name: “Red’s First Flight”. Why? In a statement, Rovio suggests the original Angry Birds is simply too popular, and that players are too happy to spend the app’s one-off 79p price rather than download the brand’s many free-to-play sequels and spin-offs which contain further microtransactions. Valve has issued a stark warning to Dota 2 cheaters, while confirming it has permanently banned over 40,000 accounts using a “honeypot” tactic. In a blog post published last night, Valve said it had banned accounts it found were using third-party software to cheat in its hugely popular MOBA over the last few weeks. According to Valve, this software accessed information used internally by the Dota client that wasn’t visible during normal gameplay, giving cheaters an unfair advantage. There’s some good news if your Forza Horizon 5 experience is starting to get a little grey around the edges; Microsoft and developer Playground Games will be announcing the open-world racer’s next expansion this Thursday, 23rd February. This mysterious new addition will be Forza Horizon 5’s second paid expansion, following on from last year’s Hot Wheels update. Sci-fi strategy game Stellaris’ latest Story Pack DLC, First Contact, now has a release date and will rolling out the red carpet for new galactic guests on 14th March. Bandai Namco has released a new video showing off Kazuya in Tekken 8. Kazuya Mishima, who has been a playable character in each mainline Tekken game, makes his expected appearance in the upcoming Tekken 8 complete with all his signature moves, such as his God Fists, Spinning Demon and Flash Punch combo. Destiny developer Bungie has won a $4.4m lawsuit against cheat seller AimJunkies in arbitration. The lawsuit has been ongoing since April 2021 when Bungie first filed suit. In November last year AimJunkies lost a bid to countersue Bungie for allegedly accessing its computers. Now Bungie has won $4,396,222 in both damages and fees.
