Microsoft is set to defend its beleagured $69bn Activision Blizzard deal at a “last-ditch” meeting with the EU next week. The behind-closed-doors session was confirmed by Microsoft to Reuters, and will take place in Brussels on Tuesday, 21st February. A group of games industry veterans – consisting most prominently of former Respawn Entertainment developers with credits on the likes of Titanfall and Apex Legends – have teamed up to form new “remote first” studio Wildlight Entertainment. Wildlight has been founded by Dusty Welch and Jason McCord (who’ll act as CEO and design director respectively), with Chad Grenier serving as studio head and game director. Disney Dreamlight Valley gets its next major update today, which adds Olaf from Frozen, Mirabel from Encanto, and also extends the game’s ongoing storyline. Patch notes for the update released today also reveal the addition of a premium shop, which will see “rotating cosmetic items like clothing, furniture, premium house skins and more”. You won’t find this stuff elsewhere, such as at Scrooge McDuck’s General Store, and you’ll only be able to buy these things using the Moonstone currency – previously used to unlock the premium season pass reward track. Xbox’s new “carbon aware” energy saving feature – which launched for Insider testing last month – is now available to everyone as part of the console’s February update. Essentially, Xbox’s new energy saving feature allows a console – provided it’s connected to the internet and has access to regional carbon intensity data – to schedule game, app, and OS updates at time a higher proportion of electricity is coming from lower-carbon sources on the electric grid.
