EA Sports is “closing in” on a deal with the Premier League. According to Sky News, the deal – thought to be worth £488m – was shared with the 20 Premier League clubs yesterday (Friday, 10th February) among reports of a “new six-year partnership”. According to Sky, one club executive “said it would deliver more than £80m annually, and would consist of EA remaining as the league’s lead partner as well as retaining its exclusive electronic game licence”. Double Fine has teamed up with 2 Player Productions for Double Fine PsychOdyssey, “an unprecedented documentary experience seven years in the making”. The documentary – which is available to stream right now, for free, on Youtube – follows the studio’s trials and tribulations as it develops Psychonauts 2, confronting “overly ambitious designs, poor morale, technical challenges, and financial woes”. Sony accuses Microsoft of “obvious harassment” as battle for Activision Blizzard gets even uglier
Sony has accused Microsoft of “obvious harassment” as the battle for Activision Blizzard heated up this week. As reported by Axios Axios, Microsoft wanted to see files on Sony executives, including performance reviews, as part of the “discovery” phase of this particularly bitter legal battle with the US’ Federal Trade Commission (FTC) over Microsoft’s proposed $69bn buyout of Activision Blizzard. Krafton – the company behind PUBG: Battlegrounds and Striking Distance Studios’ The Callisto Protocol – is set to launch its “first Canadian AAA game studio”. Led by former Ubisoft game director, Patrik Méthé – “a prominent figure with over 20 years of experience in leadership roles on some of the world’s most renowned franchises” – the studio is set on hiring 150 people over the next three years, including positions in animation, programming, and HR. Nearly two years after its initial delay, Minecraft’s long-awaited archeology feature is finally on the horizon, with developer Mojang now confirming it’ll be arriving as part of the game’s 1.20 update later this year. Ubisoft is having some serious issues with The Division 2 at the moment. Last week, Ubisoft announced it had delayed the planned 7th February launch of Season 11: Reign of Fire due to a localisation issue. Then, in a tweet published yesterday, Ubisoft admitted that in creating a fix for this problem, it caused an error that brought down the game’s build generation. The people behind PUBG plan to take on Escape from Tarkov and DMZ with an extraction shooter of their own. As spotted by The Loadout, Project Black Budget was mentioned in parent company Krafton’s recent financial report and described as “challenging ourselves to popularise the extraction shooter genre based on our PUBG production and service experience”. Expect “an ever-changing PvPvE open-world and satisfying gunplay that deliver unpredictable and exciting experiences”, Krafton said. A launch is planned on PC, console and mobile.
