Another day, another PS Plus leak, and it looks like OlliOlli World, Destiny 2: Beyond Light, Evil Dead: The Game, and Mafia Definitive Edition are on the way for PS Essential subscribers. All four are playable on PS4 consoles, whilst OlliOlli World, Destiny 2: Beyond Light, and Evil Dead: The Game are optimised for PS5, too. As is usually the case, the news comes via our old pal Billbil-kun who has been reliably leaking the PS Plus freebie line-up via a French forum for months now. World of Warcraft Classic lead Brian Birmingham has parted ways with Blizzard after voicing concerns about the company’s “forced” stack-ranking policy. The policy in question reportedly states managers at Blizzard are obliged to give a low “Developing” rating – something that could impact an employees financial status and future promotion potential – to a certain percentage of its staff in order to meet a quota laid out by parent company Activision Blizzard. In an email seen by Bloomberg, Birmingham stated when Blizzard team leads questioned this policy, the “World of Warcraft directors explained that while they did not agree, the…
As part of the ongoing FTC lawsuit against Microsoft’s buyout of Activision Blizzard, Microsoft has served Sony a subpoena to divulge confidential business details. It means Sony may be forced to reveal confidential information on its future plans it would likely prefer to keep quiet. The subpoena was issued on 17th January with a response date of 20th January, though this has been extended until 27th January for Sony to “move to limit or quash or otherwise respond to the subpoena”. During the Christmas break, I had a morning routine of helping my mum and then settling down for another five minutes of Lil Gator Game on my Switch. Maybe ten minutes. Or fifteen. And then a few more during the day in between writing sessions. And then sometimes a quick blast at night when going through the new If Books Could Kill podcast. I was hooked. Those mysterious days between the Christmas break and the start of a new year always feel more freeing and relaxed, like a long, unexpected weekend during childhood. Released through Playtonic’s publishing arm, Lil Gator…
Rick and Morty co-creator departs High on Life studio he founded following allegations
Justin Roiland, co-creator of Rick and Morty and founder of High on Life developer Squanch Games, will no longer be associated with either project following allegations of domestic abuse. This morning, Squanch Games announced via Twitter that it had received Roiland’s resignation at the beginning of last week. Ongoing support for the Xbox Game Pass hit will continue. At the same time, Rick and Morty’s US network Adult Swim confirmed it had cut ties with Roiland, though his popular animated show would continue. Roiland voiced both title characters, and their roles will now be recast. Read more Source – eurogamer.net…
French unions representing Ubisoft Paris staff are pushing ahead with plans for an employee walkout, with a date of this Friday, 27th January now set. The call to strike comes in response to ongoing discontent at the publisher, inflamed this month by comments from Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot following a round of troubling financial results. Two unions, the video game workers’ union (STJV) and digital technology union Solidaires Informatique, have now called on employees at Ubisoft’s Parisian headquarters to strike this week, French newspaper Libération reported today. Warning: This piece contains discussions of mortality. To play the current build of Birth, I go to my desktop and click on a small icon showing a picture of a tooth. This is important: it’s a whole tooth, with the parts seen and the parts that, traditionally, go unseen, since they exist beyond everyday thoughts and below the gumline. “Below the gumline” might be a nice way of thinking about Birth itself, as it happens, a whole game that exists below the gumline. And that tooth? That tooth is perfect. This is not the cheery childhood mouthful of sparklers you…
Forza Motorsport has reportedly been delayed from its previously announced “spring 2023” release date on Xbox Series X/S and PC to “Q3 maybe even a little bit later”. That’s according to Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb, speaking during the latest episode of his Game Mess Decides podcast (thanks VGC). “I feel pretty good about this after asking around a couple of times after hearing it the first time earlier today,” Grubb explained. “It does seem like Forza is going to slip later into the year and probably won’t be the first half of the year…The timeframe I’m hearing for Forza is…
Spoon-wielding Pokémon Kadabra will be returning to Pokémon: The Card Game for the first time in over two decades this June, following illusionist, magician, and spoon-bender Uri Geller’s decision to drop his long-running lawsuit against the character. Geller first sued Nintendo in November 2000, claiming the spoon-bearing Kadabra – known as “Yungerer” or “Yungeller” in Japan – was an unauthorised appropriation of his identity. That initial California lawsuit was dismissed in 2003, but additional lawsuits reportedly continued outside the US, and Kadabra has remained absent from Pokémon: The Card Game since 2002. Then, in 2020, Geller had a change of…
Mushroom fans rejoice! HBO has confirmed its critically acclaimed live-action TV adaptation of The Last of Us will be returning for a second season. It’s perhaps not particularly surprising news; The Last of Us has proven both a critical and ratings smash since it premiered on 15th January. Shortly after the show’s debut, HBO announced it had become the network’s second most-watched premiere in over a decade, with 4.7m viewers tuning in for the first episode – a figure that’s since quadrupled, garnering over 18m views in the space of a week. Episode 2, meanwhile, secured the largest week-two audience…
