Sony has revealed further details of its new DualSense Edge wireless controller for the PlayStation 5, but one particular point stuck out the most. In a hand-on preview, The Verge noticed that battery life was noticeably worse than the base DualSense controller, and this was later confirmed to the publication in a statement. “The DualSense Edge wireless controller’s operating time is moderately shorter than the original DualSense wireless controller,” a Sony spokesperson said. “We wanted to strike a good balance between wireless operating time and delivering robust, high-performance features.” Read more Source – eurogamer.net All content and images belong to…
Acclaimed martial arts adventure Sifu will arrive on Steam and Xbox consoles for the first time in March 2023, developer Sloclap has confirmed. This version of the game will include a new Arenas mode, which will also arrive as a free update for PC via the Epic Games Store and on PlayStation at the same time. Details of what this new offering will include are thin on the ground at the moment – a trailer for the update promises nine maps which will unlock new modifiers and alternate moves, additional cheats and fresh outfits. It sounds like they’ll be worth…
Games of 2022: Hindsight was the best for invoking the brilliance of Terence Malick and Wong Kar Wai
In a year of innovative games that didn’t quite stick the landing or super polished blockbusters that left me cold, when it comes to considering game of the year contenders, I’ve found it ever more important to prioritise my heart picks. In 2022, Hindsight was that game for me. I’d argue it’s gotten more difficult to find a game that can hit you in the feels when many indie games feel compelled, at times mawkishly, to make players cry. Hindsight also has the unfortunate position of being the second Annapurna Interactive joint released this year that centres on a similar…
My parents aren’t big on this little thing called video games. They’ve never quite understood my fascination with it, which is part of the reason I’ve always been more of a solo player. That changed last Christmas. Intrigued by new technology, they asked for me to bring home my VR kit. My sister slipped on the headset and was immediately sucked into Beat Saber. That spurred my mum to have a go. Then my dad (never the gamer) wanted to check out some videos on the headset, avoiding motion sickness. Even my grandma was amazed when I put on a…
The Witcher 3’s next-gen update on PC has received a hotfix to address a number of the issues that accompanied the launch. According to the patch notes, the hotfix should “improve overall stability and performance of the game, and fix GOG & Steam overlays.” Stability and performance improvements is of course the catch-all phrase used by developers to group a large number of small fixes, but we do know from reports of PC users that problems included framerate drops and slow texture loading. Paw-don me, I didn’t mean to inter-ruff your day, but I have some news to share with you: Pupperazzi, and all the dogs that come with it, will be bounding onto the Nintendo Switch early next year. Sundae Month and publisher Kitfox Games announced this news as part of Nintendo’s House of Indies: Holiday Event yesterday, promising Switch owners that soon they will be able to use their photography skills to snap all the best shots of shibas, terriers, labs, pugs, and more. “You want ’em, WE GOT EM!” the Pupperazzi team proclaimed. But it is not just taking pictures.…
Welcome to the latest DF Direct Weekly – and while the year is drawing to a close, there still seems to be enough gaming and technology news to allow us to deliver a packed show. We kick off with discussion on Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 – now dated for ‘Fall’ 2023 – while we also share our thoughts on the extent to which Death Stranding’s content would work for its transition to cinema. The story that caught my eye this week was Sean Hollister’s interview with Valve on The Verge, where the company revealed that any successor to the existing Steam…
Candy Crush developer King is closing down its Crash Bandicoot mobile game, On the Run. The game’s servers will be taken down on 16th February 2023, the mobile giant said earlier today. The US Federal Trade Commission has hit Fortnite maker Epic Games with a record-breaking penalty of $520m (£427m) over allegations it previously employed “lax privacy practices” for voice and text chat, and used design tricks to “dupe millions of players” into unintentional purchases. The eye-opening judgment includes the largest-ever settlement obtained by the FTC regarding the US Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, as Fortnite allowed in-game chat and user data collection by default. Fortnite holds a “Teen” rating by the US ratings board ESRB, but the FTC has argued Epic Games knew many of its users were likely under 13…
Instead of listening to relatives this festive season, why not listen to me talk to some brilliant people from the world of games? Just pop a woolly hat on and they won’t even see the earbuds. I know: you’re welcome.I’ve had a great time recording One-to-one this year. If you don’t know, it’s an in-depth interview podcast where I spend about an hour learning about the lives and careers of some well known people. The whole point is to take time to get to know people. One of the conversations that stands out from this year was talking to Ken and…
