Star Citizen, the controversial space sim from developer Cloud Imperium Games, has now raised more than half a billion dollars in funding from backers. Star Citizen’s exceedingly lengthy development is well-documented, with the game still in alpha over a decade after production began. And while it’s attracted some private funding in that time, the overwhelming bulk has come via crowdfunding, beginning with a successful $2m USD Kickstarter in 2012 and ballooning from there. As of today, Star Citizen has amassed $500,075,150 USD in crowdfunding from a total of 4,096,384 backers, according to the official Roberts Space Industries website. Its previous…

If FIFA 23’s 700+ plus real-life football clubs somehow aren’t enough to be getting on with, it looks like you’ll soon be able to sling a decidedly more imaginary one onto the pile, with all signs pointing to an appearance from Ted Lasso’s AFC Richmond in this year’s game. Hints of an impending crossover with the award-winning Apple TV+ comedy series first emerged last week, when a listing for AFC Richmond – the fictional London team managed by Ted Lasso in the show – briefly appeared on EA’s FIFA ratings database before being removed. That might have been the end…

More leaked footage from Diablo 4 has found its way onto the internet, adding to the blizzard being faced by Blizzard. As with previous leaks from August, this footage appears to have originated from the ongoing Friend and Family beta version of the game – something that is labelled as a “private test build”. The latest leaks were uploaded to reddit and show a total of 43 minutes of gameplay footage. This work-in-progress footage includes the map, various cosmetic options and a variety of attacks – though is all subject to change before the release of the full game. Read…
A PlayStation 5 with a detachable disc drive is reportedly in the works by Sony for launch around September next year. The report, by Insider Gaming, suggests the console will otherwise have near-identical hardware to current PS5 models, with the only difference being the removable drive itself, and an extra USB-C port for it to plug in. There’s also the suggestion this new console will be sold both on its own and with the detachable disc drive included. My favourite Monkey Island story isn’t about a puzzle or a character or a joke. It’s not Stan and his hand-talking, or the severed head that can lead you through mazes. It’s not actually a story from the game itself. It’s to do with a friend of my wife’s. This friend once admitted that, as a kid, whenever she had a story she wanted to tell her mum, her mum would always stop her at the start and say, with what I’m guessing was a heavy, deeply theatrical sigh, “Is this about Monkey Island?” I think about this a lot.…

The second factor that makes this one rather special? That’ll be a 40 minute (!) guest slot for none other than Eurogamer’s Ian Higton! You may have watched and read Ian’s excellent PlayStation…
Rockstar has acknowledged the enormous Grand Theft Auto 6 leak of work-in-progress development materials that took place over the weekend. In a statement published this afternoon on Twitter, as the company returned to work, Rockstar admitted it had suffered a “network intrusion” – a hack – from which the early development footage of GTA 6 had been taken.Rockstar said it hoped the hack would have no impact on its live services – such as GTA Online – and insisted the leak would not impact the development of the game long-term. Still, Rockstar acknowleged it was “extremely disappointed” at what had happened.…
