Like a Dragon 8 has been officially announced during today’s RGG Summit with members of its development team. A short trailer revealing Yakuza: Like a Dragon protagonist Ichiban Kasuga and and series poster boy Kiryu Kazuma standing in Kamurocho was shown. This is the first official reveal of Like a Dragon 8, following the brief glimpse seen in July thanks to a video from inside Sega’s offices. Nintendo still intends to release Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp, though is yet to decide when to do so. The turn-based strategy game – believed to be complete and ready to launch – was pulled from release schedules earlier this year due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Deathloop could be on its way to Xbox imminently, one year after its release as a console exclusive on PlayStation 5. An advert for the game now appears on the Xbox dashboard with the option to pre-order now. However, selecting the advert takes users to a blank screen as it’s not yet available on the store itself. The upcoming PlayStation Stars loyalty programme got a spotlight in tonight’s State of Play broadcast, with a peek at some of the digital collectibles you’ll be able to unlock by completing tasks. We also got word on when we’d see the programme launch – beginning in “some regions in Asia” from late September onwards. America and Europe will then see Stars arrive “in the weeks that follow”. Collectibles shown included 3D models of Ape Escape, Sony’s bizarre ChordMachine boombox, a PlayStation 3, Sony’s feline mascot Toro, the PocketStation peripheral. With God of War’s highly anticipated sequel inching ever closer, Sony Santa Monica has given us another look at Ragnarök. Closing out tonight’s State of Play, we were invited to “set out on an epic and unflinching journey as Kratos and Atreus struggle with holding on and letting go” in a new story trailer. We can see the towing Tyr (the other god of war) in more detail in this new tease, as well as swelling music and heart pounding scenes – I mean, of course. Team Ninja has revealed its PlayStation 5 exclusive Rise of the Ronin. As the developer is known for, it’s another action RPG, this time set in 1863 Japan as civil war rages and a western influence permeates. Steam users beware: there’s a new browser-in-the-browser phishing scam technique that’s baiting players with the promise of tournament play. Group-IB has published a new report on the topic, illustrating how a new campaign is targeting professional gamers (spotted by PCGamer). The campaign imitates browser pages within Steam with fake direct messages inviting players to join tournaments. Facebook parent company Meta is yet to reveal its long-awaited high-end VR headset – but photos and videos of a prototype are now available online. An early sample of the device, apparently left behind by accident, was recently discovered by hotel worker Ramiro Cardenas – after he responded to complaints of a pile of rubbish left in a bag in a corridor. Cardenas, a VR fan, quickly realised what the device actually was – and promptly posted a series of photos and videos on the internet. Sony has announced it’ll be airing a new instalment of its State of Play digital showcase tomorrow, 13th September, highlighting a range of PS5, PS4, and PSVR2 games. It’s a late one for those of us in the UK, alas, kicking off at 11pm BST/3pm PT/6pm ET, but it should be decently eventful too, promising around 20 minutes of reveals, updates, and gameplay for a total of 10 games.
