Amazon was set to release a free-to-play MMO based on Tolkien’s Lord the Rings works sometime this year. However, in April 2021, the project was cancelled, with reports claiming a dispute with mega-games company Tencent was the catalyst for this decision. Now, speaking to GameSpot, Amazon Games president Christoph Hartmann confirmed this was indeed the case. “We had a deal with a Hong Kong-based company, Leyou; I think it would have been great to work with them. But they later got sold to Tencent and it just got very complicated,” Hartmann explained. Read more Source – eurogamer.net All content and…

I’d forgotten how stressful A Plague Tale can be. These kids really don’t get a break do they? It’s probably not right to even call them kids any more either – I’m not sure how old Amicia is now, in Requiem, the sequel, but she’s a young woman in attitude alone. She’s been through some stuff, they both have – Amicia and her younger brother Hugo – and they’ve been shaped by it. And whereas they largely ran from trouble in Innocence, and all of their abilities were based around escaping, more or less, now they’ve got some fight in…

Just days after releasing an updated early access roadmap for Phasmophobia, developer Kinetic Games has announced the ghost hunting sim’s next big patch – known as the Apocalypse Update – will be arriving on 27th September. There’s a lot going on in Phasmophobia’s Apocalypse Update, starting with the arrival of the new Sunny Meadows Mental Institution map – an entirely reworked, more visually interesting, and, crucially, more compact version of the game’s previously released Asylum map. A recent poll suggested smaller maps were high on the list of players’ wants, and – intentionally or otherwise – the Apocalypse Update seems…

PlayStation boss Jim Ryan has spoken out against Microsoft’s offer to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation for “at least several more years” beyond Sony’s existing agreement with publisher Activision Blizzard, calling the deal “inadequate on many levels” – despite Microsoft’s insistence it went “well beyond typical gaming industry agreements”. It’s the latest shot fired in an increasingly public back and forth between the two companies as governmental scrutiny of Microsoft’s proposed $69bn USD acquisition of Activision Blizzard grows, particularly in relation to its impact on other gaming platforms. The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority, for instance, recently said the…

It’s probably not much of a surprise given CD Projekt’s previous assertion that its currently in-development new Witcher game would mark the start of a “new saga for the franchise”, but the studio has now explicitly confirmed it’s already “thinking about” new instalments beyond that. Asked to elaborate on the company’s use of the word “saga” during CD Projekt’s latest earnings call, president and joint CEO Adam Kiciński clarified that “like the first saga was three games…we are in pre-production of the first game from the second Witcher saga.” As such, the studio is already “thinking about more than one…

Following a small delay, Gremlin hero Gizmo will soon be making his debut in Warner Bros.’ Smash-like brawler, MultiVersus. In anticipation of his arrival, the team has shared more about Gizmo’s moveset and confirmed that he will be a support character, much like the likes of Scooby-Doo’s Velma. The small card shared on the MultiVersus Twitter feed states that Gizmo will have a move called “Gizmo-A-Go-Go”. This will see Gizmo attaching himself onto the back of his allies. He will also be able to “sing and spawn musical note projectiles” that will damage nearby enemies thanks to a move called…

Following on from the Cha-Cha bundle introduced at the end of last month, a new bundle for Call of Duty Vanguard and Warzone now brings even more from Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy to the fray. This bundle, known as the Hazel Bundle, will allow players to “suit up” as Umbrella Acadamy’s other time travelling assassin Hazel (the clue was in the name there), thanks to the new legendary operative skin. It comes with the pink dog head and all, and is available now. “Everything happens like it’s supposed to… including your enemies getting eliminated,” reads the teaser for this latest…

PowerWash Simulator – developer FuturLab’s wildly compelling dirt-busting squirt ’em up – is currently celebrating 3m million players having hoisted nozzles since the game’s launch on Xbox and PC back in May. And that milestone coincides with the opening of nominations for the next filth-encrusted edifice to be added to the game. There’s not much more to say on the 3m players front, which Futurlab announced on Twitter earlier today, other than to say its success is thoroughly well-deserved. Eurgamer’s Robert Purchese – who wrote about the serene pleasures of PowerWash Simulator’s sedate busywork in July – is far from…
