I’ve never really stopped to think about how you’d make an entire game about backpacks before, probably because they’re always there, in every RPG, and they’re already a kind of game in themselves as you try to fit everything in. But how do you take that idea and spin it out into something big enough to fill a game in its own right? Backpack Hero has attempted an answer, and the answer here is ‘make it a bit like a deck-building game’, but there’s some magic in there too. There’s combat, which I didn’t necessarily expect, and the way you…
Fortnite fans have spotted a sneaky Lord of the Rings Easter egg in-game, sparking speculation of a fresh crossover. The potential tease can be found on one of the Fortnite island’s beaches, where a small-scale replica of the Helm’s Deep castle can be seen. Is this a tease of a future collaboration, perhaps timed to coincide with Amazon’s upcoming, billion-dollar Lord of the Rings prequel TV show? Or is this developer Epic Games simply having some fun? Redfall’s map will be the largest in any of Arkane Austin’s games to date, the developer has said in a new video. Karen Segars, art director at Arkane, described the setting as quaint and small, despite the fact that Redfall will be its “biggest” game. Talos One, the setting for Prey 2017, is dwarfed by a farm area players visit in one of Redfall’s early missions, Studio director Harvey Smith recalled. Earlier this month, it was reported that Sony had been blocking games from going onto Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass subscription service. The type of games this was affecting was never specified, however screenwriter Gary Whitta recently claimed that Sony had paid Cult of the Lamb’s developer, Massive Monster, to stop the indie-hit from appearing on Xbox’s service. The game’s publisher Devolver Digital has now rebuked Whitta’s statement. Read more Source – eurogamer.net All content and images belong to their respected owners. Spitfire Interactive, a new studio established by key members of the team that worked on acclaimed deck-building dungeon-crawler Hand of Fate, has unveiled Capes, a “gritty” new turn-based superhero RPG coming to Steam next year. Capes takes place in a world where, during the Golden Age of superheroes, the villains finally managed to get the upperhand, completely wiping out humanity’s protectors. Two decades on, however, in a dystopian city where superpowers are outlawed, a new generation of superheroes begins to rise with the goal of finally ending the reign of evil once and for all. In gameplay terms, that action…
PowerWash Simulator players can now help gaming and mental health research while they spray
PowerWash Simulator developer FuturLab has launched a new initiative that’ll enable players to opt-in and help independent researchers from Oxford University’s Internet Institute gather data for its research on gaming and mental health. From today, Steam players that select the ‘research-edition – Research Edition 2022’ drop-down option under PowerWash Simulator’s Properties > Betas menu will gain access to what FuturLab calls a “one-of-a-kind anonymous research study centred around the well-being of PowerWash Simulator’s players [that] also aims to deliver insights into the larger discourse of gaming and mental health.” FuturLab says two types of anonymous, de-identified data will be collected…
