If it feels like a long time since the disastrous reveal of the Xbox One, it’s because it really has been. Some nine years have passed since those tumultuous months leading up to the launch of Microsoft’s troubled console, when the mantra of television, television, television was followed up by some half-hearted concessions to games, and the slow pull into focus of a then novel and unsavoury approach to game ownership that were met with an understandably fiery response. For most of those nine years it felt like Microsoft was making amends for those short but oh-so-damaging months; the official…

Nintendo has shifted another 23m Switch consoles in the past financial year (ending 31st March), for a new lifetime total of 107.65m units. But while that’s a huge milestone – already 6m more than the Wii – Nintendo admitted its consoles sales were down 20 percent on last year, and blamed “shortages of semiconductor components and other parts”. Last year’s results were also boosted by the breakout popularity of Animal Crossing, Nintendo noted. Nintendo Switch game sales saw no such slowdown. Software sales were up 1.8 percent year-on-year to 235m, meaning the past 12 months were the highest annual game…
Publisher Wales Interactive has given a fresh airing to Sker Ritual – its co-op survival shooter follow-up to 2020’s horror outing Maid of Sker – sharing new details and a first proper trailer. The original Maid of Sker took its cue from Welsh folklore – retelling the supposedly true tale of Elizabeth Williams, said to have have died of a broken heart after being locked inside her home by her controlling father – and spun it into an richly atmospheric, if ultimately rather unadventurous slice of 19th stealth horror. Follow-up Sker Ritual is quite a departure, however, switching out the…
EA Motive is readying to show more of its remake of Visceral Games’ much-love sci-fi horror classic Dead Space, and will be shining a light (a small one obviously, so as not to ruin the gloomy ambience) on the game’s art in a new livestream set to air this Thursday, 12th May. This will be EA Motive’s third developer livestream since the Dead Space remake’s official unveiling last July, with the developer’s first showing having focused on enhancements being made to the original’s moody environments, zero-g traversal, and dismemberment and damage systems. Its second showcase, meanwhile, was all about audio.…

The New York Times has decided to remove today’s intended Wordle answer, in case players thought its appearance was an attempt by the newspaper to reference a “major recent news event”. We’ll mention the word itself below. However, the New York Times is unable to affect Wordle’s list of upcoming answers (all pre-programmed into the game months in advance) if you do not refresh your browser window. This means some players will still see the removed word today. Read more Source – eurogamer.net All content and images belong to their respected owners. When you think of Left 4 Dead, in general the image of a zombie comes to mind. However, if Gabe Newell had his way, this may not be the case, as the Valve president initially felt zombies were a bit cliché and “cheesy”. Former Valve writer Chet Faliszek chatted about his time at the company with YouTube channel Kiwi Talkz (via VG247). Here, the writer revealed during the development of Left 4 Dead he, “went to dinner with Gabe and [Newell] was like ‘if you look at zombie movies, Night Of The Living Dead is about racism, Dawn Of The…
