I started running last year after reading Ben Wilson’s wonderfully Brysonian memoir, One Year Without Social Media, a memoir that properly soars whenever 5Ks and 10Ks are in the offing. I often walk with a stick for balance, so I assumed that running would be beyond me. It turned out it wasn’t. Sure, I have wallowed for a year, moving back and forth between the middle weeks of Couch to 5K, but I’m still running, and I haven’t fallen yet. Turns out I like running! I read books about it. I bought a snood. I talk to other runners. I…

Casey Hudson, the co-creator and director of the Mass Effect Trilogy, looks to once again be returning to space as his new studio Humanoid Studios has confirmed it is working on an “all-new science-fiction universe.”The news comes via Humanoid Studios’ updated website, where it states that “our current project is a multi-platform AAA game, focusing on character-driven narrative in an all-new science-fiction universe.” While that alone may not 100% mean the game is set in space, the website features four pieces of concept art (which you can see below) that teases an adventure that looks to very much take place…

Tokyo’s Shibuya district is one of the liveliest places on the planet. Day or night, it’s generally densely packed with people and positively thrumming with energy. Ghostwire: Tokyo shows us another side of this iconic urban hub, after a supernatural force leaves its streets eerily deserted. It’s a nightmarish vision, but an absolutely incredible recreation nonetheless – this city slice feels astonishingly like the real thing (albeit with more conspicuous shrines), and the game’s dedication to its setting is paired with an equal level of zeal for embracing Japanese folklore and tradition. The catch, however, is that it’s let down…

It’s all going on for Greg Buchanan. His still-warm thriller novel Sixteen Horses looks destined to become one of the books of the year, having filled window displays at Waterstones stores around the UK for the paperback launch in February. I’ve read it and it’s brilliant; dark, disturbing, fearsomely intelligent and utterly compelling. I couldn’t put it down. Such is the popularity of the book that it’s going to be adapted for TV. And there will be a follow-up book called Consumed that he’s writing right now. And he has a deal for a third, standalone, unrelated book he’s also…

It was during a lecture they probably should have been listening to that Sara Thompson doodled the Dungeons & Dragons Combat Wheelchair on the back of a textbook. They’d been talking about it for a while, the wheelchair, irked by a game that offered players limitless freedom to be whoever they wanted but still struggled to fully represent them. So they did something about it. A few years later, that Combat Wheelchair add-on for Dungeons & Dragons is on a third edition and has reached right around the world. It got the attention of writers working for D&D maker Wizards…
