Diablo 4 was one of my favorite games last year, so I’ve had high hopes for Vessel of Hatred, the first expansion to developer Blizzard’s demonic ARPG. Fortunately, this action-packed crusade through the muck and mire of Nahantu’s forests and swamps is exactly what the plague doctor ordered, even if there isn’t as much meat on the bones as I’d hoped. In fact, the truncated campaign, unfinished story, and modest amount of endgame content make this expansion feel more like a prologue in some ways. But the quality of life improvements, changes to the meta, debut raid activity, and fantastic…
Sony’s controversial PlayStation Network requirement for its PC games is once again in the spotlight after the company delisted the original Horizon Zero Dawn on Steam and the Epic Games Store and added the PSN requirement to the upcoming single-player remaster.Sony’s PSN account requirement for its PC games was thrust into the limelight with the release of Arrowhead’s explosive PC and PS5 co-op shooter Helldivers 2 earlier this year. Helldivers 2 suffered a review bomb campaign on Steam after Sony made PSN accounts mandatory for PC gamers on Valve’s platform (Arrowhead subsequently decided to turn the Steam user review history…

Bandai Namco Responds to Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero Leaks With Takedowns and Shifty Eyes
The Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero leaks have begun a week before its official release date — and Bandai Namco has responded in perhaps the only way it can: with takedowns and shifty eyes.It seems someone got hold of a copy of the game early and, as is the internet way, started streaming the game. It didn’t take long for Bandai Namco to nuke that stream from orbit, but of course the internet noticed and never forgets.Since then, Bandai Namco has worked to plug further leaks, but it faces an uphill battle at this stage. And in a tweet responding to…

Always the bridesmaid but never the bride, SpongeBob’s sleepy sidekick, Patrick Star, has often been overlooked in favour of his over-the-top neighbour – at least in the world of video games. That hasn’t stopped him from making a home in our hearts, though, so I was riding high when I learned the enigmatic starfish was finally being thrust into the limelight… but then the emotional rollercoaster dipped back down as I discovered SpongeBob SquarePants: The Patrick Star Game is little more than a sea of uninspired minigames and repetitive activities that waste almost all of its obvious potential, outside of…
After a string of With Silent Hill 2, Konami has delivered a deep, long (10-15 hours) adventure that’s scary in a disturbing, eerie fashion. The game’s mechanics show an attempt to improve the genre’s general failings, and more importantly don’t get in the way of the game or the story itself. As a PlayStation 2 game overall, Silent Hill 2 is graphically stunning, while providing a full production package of surround sound techniques and good voice acting to boot. Konami’s survival-horror game doesn’t break the genre’s mold so much as it modifies and eases up the rigid boundaries set early…
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Dev Says Big Budget Games Are Failing in Part Because Teams Are Over-Scoping Their Projects
Concord. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Star Wars Outlaws. Final Fantasy 16. The list of big budget video game failures is growing longer each month, with triple-A publishers struggling to make a dent in the dominance of older, more established players in this most brutal of markets.Throughout it all, massive hits come out of nowhere. One of those is Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, developed by World War Z and SnowRunner studio Saber Interactive and published by Focus Entertainment.Of course, Space Marine 2 benefited from the strength of the Warhammer 40,000 brand, which is carefully managed by Games Workshop…
Many Coins off LEGO Super Mario World, Half off Dark Soulses, Slashed Star Wars AAAs, and More!
Thank your own personal, all-knowing entity—possibly Mira the Dog—it’s Friday! I’m going to wrap up our week together with a bunch of cheapies I’ve seen on “olden year” sports titles, reduced LEGO, and more. In case I don’t see you (in some random online lobby) over the weekend, stay safe, save often, and catch you Monday! In retro news, I’m doing a 27-barrel-roll salute for the birthday of Lylat Wars, the first N64 game to rock our world/mitts with a Rumble Pak. My introduction to this 3D rail shooter is seared into my brain. Our eyes met at a demo…
