Grand Theft Auto 5 now features ray-tracing on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, thanks to the game’s new 1.64 update that’s available to download now. The patch adds ray-traced reflections when playing using the game’s 30fps Fidelity Mode, allowing for details such as vehicles and characters to be shown on reflective surfaces such as windows and in water. Fly a helicopter past a skyscraper and you’ll now see your ride reflected in its glass. Zoom along Los Santos’ neon-drenched waterfront in your jet ski, and you’ll be able to see its lights reflected in the waves. Neat! Read…

We’ve all done it before. You need a picture for an assignment or presentation, you head to Google and find the perfect image. But it’s got a huge watermark across it. It’s not like it’s being used for profit, or it’s going to be seen by thousands of people, so it’s probably fine. The stakes are a little different when said assignment is, say, a £50 game from a best-selling, worldwide franchise. And unfortunately for someone at Square Enix, that assignment was Crisis Core Final Fantasy 7 Reunion.Shortly after the game’s release yesterday, the eagle-eyed writers over at Kotaku noticed a…

I have had my quarrels with Sony’s new look PlayStation Plus subscription service – I signed up to the Premium tier on its revamp, and since then have been left a little underwhelmed by its PS1 offerings. However, one PlayStation 1 game that many have dabbled with since its release on PlayStation Plus is Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue, the tie-in game for Pixar and Disney’s 1999 animation film. In fact, this game is actually third on Sony’s most played classic games for 2022, sitting only behind Mafia: Definitive Edition and God of War 3 Remastered. This…

Welcome the latest instalment of DF Direct Weekly – the 90th, in fact – where myself, John Linneman and Alex Battaglia discuss the latest gaming and technology news. It’s a week dominated by The Game Awards and the various reveals put before our eyes, where maybe – just maybe – we began to see the beginning of the end of the cross-gen period. I’m not going to spoil the discussion but expect the Direct to cover off our thoughts on Returnal and The Last of Us Part 1 being confirmed for PC, plus we welcome Unreal Engine 5 titles like…

Following the confirmation (because, let’s be honest, we all knew it was coming) Returnal is making the jump to PC, its PC specs have been detailed – and they have raised more than a few eyebrows. Unlike other big PlayStation releases, it is recommended that you have a colossal 32GB of RAM available on your PC to play Returnal at its best potential. For comparison, the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves collection and Horizon Zero Dawn both recommend having 16GB of RAM available – that is the minimum of what Returnal asks for. Meanwhile, God of War only asks for 8GB…

We’re long past the days of Guitar Hero, Rock Band, and their plastic instruments. I’ve still got a whole band’s worth knocking around somewhere gathering dust, relics of a very specific era. Going into a Game store and nailing one of the hardest Guitar Hero tracks in front of a crowd is one of my favourite gaming memories – and my proud dad, funnily enough. But those games have fallen out of favour, be it for cost, environmental reasons, or fashion. Just this week, Guitar Hero creator Harmonix announced its latest game Fuser would be going offline – not played…
