Pokémon has reached its ninth generation with Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, representing the series’ first foray into an open world. Results so far have been mixed, with particular focus on the games’ poor technical performance. However, the move to an open world has inspired other problems that, while not alien to the series, are exacerbated by the extra freedom afforded players. With both games’ maps and minimaps obscured with countless icons, a lack of pathfinding, and no meaningful landmarks, navigation in Pokémon’s ninth generation is, thus far, a nightmare. While this is partly down to Game Freak’s inexperience with open…

It’s not often that we see a PC-focused game that really pushes the platform hard, but that’s exactly what Warhammer 40K: Darktide does – and its visual quality is astonishing. It’s particularly impressive given that developer Fatshark isn’t using a mainstream engine like Unreal or Unity. So what makes this first-person co-op title so visually commanding, how well does it run and what are the best optimised settings for mid-range and high-end hardware? Let’s start with the basics – the idea here is that you choose a character from one of four classes from the Warhammer 40K universe, embark on…

Nintendo has wielded its heavy hand once more, this time on popular YouTube channel Did You Know Gaming. The channel, which frequently reports on trivia from a specific game or franchise, has been issued a takedown notice from Nintendo. This takedown pertains specifically to Did You Know Gaming’s video on Heroes of Hyrule – a Zelda game for the Nintendo DS akin to Final Fantasy Tactics, that was pitched to Nintendo by Retro Studios. In response to this notice, Did You Know Gaming stated it considers this move by Nintendo a “slap in the face for video game history preservation”.…

Have you ever reached Minecraft’s end credits? Doing so requires visiting its hard-to-reach The End dimension and defeating the Elder Dragon boss who dwells there. If you have got past this point, you’ll likely remember the bizarre eight-minute scrolling text story which comes next, before the end credits begin proper. It’s a truly odd read – structured as a conversation between two higher beings apparently observing you – the player. Perhaps even odder, it was never officially licensed to Minecraft developer Mojang, and subsequently is not owned by Microsoft. Read more Source – eurogamer.net All content and images belong to…

With patches to fix these issues now available, the most recent of which was deployed on 7th December, we went back into the game to assess the situation – was shader compilation fixed? And do other issues still persist? Firstly, yes – nearly all shader compilation stutter that…

Activision has launched a fresh legal front in its ongoing battle against the State of California, which has been suing the Call of Duty publisher over reports of workplace misconduct and sexual harassment since the summer of 2021. In response, Activision has now filed its own lawsuit against California’s recently-renamed Civil Rights Department (CRD) – the same agency currently trying to sue Activision – over claims the department has taken too long with its own case and not been transparent over its connections with the media and labour unions (thanks, Axios). Activision is now asking a judge to force the…
