Delightful VR fantasy adventure Moss and its sequel have been confirmed as PSVR2 launch titles, with both games arriving alongside Sony’s new hardware on 22nd February next year. The original Moss, if you’re unfamiliar, initially launched as a PSVR exclusive back in 2018, gaining widespread acclaim for its charming tale of a tiny mouse, Quill, on a journey through a beautiful, human-sized fantasy world. Eurogamer called it “the finest PSVR game to date”. Its best trick was its hybrid first-person/-third-person perspective, giving players full control over Quill while simultaneously letting them view the action through the eyes of a spirit,…
Cast your mind back to the early 90s and you may recall two aliens with a love for funk music crash landing on earth. These aliens were ToeJam and Earl, and their initial crash landing here (all via the Sega Mega Drive) resulted in their names being elevated to somewhat of a cult status in the industry. Now, over 30 years since their first landing, ToeJam and Earl will soon be coming to a new medium. Yes, these two aliens will be joining the likes of Lara Croft, Nathan Drake and Mario, who have all made the transition to the…
I had my doubts. I had questions circling in my head since I first played Diablo 4 at BlizzCon 2019 – was it really that long ago? – and I’ve had questions about the need for a big new Diablo at all. But after 10 hours with it from the beginning of the game, I can see what kind of shape it’s taking, and I like it. I like the tone, I like the mechanics, I like the world. There are some things I can’t see but overall this is, plainly, the next generation of Diablo.Curiously, it’s the world that…
No blue shells? ALL BLUE SHELLS? Beautiful, perpetual chaos can now be yours whenever you desire, thanks to a free new Mario Kart 8 Deluxe update enabling players to define exactly which items they want to appear in their games. As detailed in Nintendo’s announcement tweet, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s new custom item feature works with offline VS races, as well as “certain” online modes, and gives players the ability to either randomise items that’ll be available in their races or to toggle specific items on or off. And yes, that means competitions can now be entirely item-free. That’s not…
The Digital Foundry Supporter Program – what we’ve achieved and where we’re going next
It’s been around 18 months now since we relaunched our Patreon as the Digital Foundry Supporter Program – and I wanted to take the opportunity to tell you what we’ve achieved in that time and where we aim to go next with the aid of your backing. For us at DF, it’s been an interesting and successful experience based on a fundamental question: in a world packed with free reporting, can we actually sustain and grow what we do with help from the audience? And what if we invited these supporters to be closer to the team, to talk to…
Fans of Sonic the Hedgehog and Genshin Impact are fighting over various claims of foul play in relation to this year’s Players’ Voice fan vote at tomorrow’s Game Awards. The Players’ Voice category is a 100 percent fan-voted award which this year has five possible choices as its finalists: Elden Ring, Genshin Impact, Stray, God of War Ragnarok and Sonic Frontiers. Over the past week, the vote has become mired in controversy amidst accusations of a broken poll, bots and bribery. To be clear, there’s no credible evidence of bribery, despite various fan claims foul play must be to blame…
This morning, Xbox head Phil Spencer let the world know Microsoft was planning to sweeten its $68.7bn Activision Blizzard deal (perhaps specifically with the FTC in mind) by assuring consumers that, should the company’s proposed acquisition go through, it would commit to putting Call of Duty titles onto Nintendo consoles for 10 years. As part of this announcement, Spencer stated “Microsoft is committed to helping bring more games to more people – however they choose to play.” So, how do people choose to play Call of Duty? Well, for this current generation of consoles at least, not on a Nintendo…
The Witcher 3’s PC update will break some mods, but several popular options will be baked in
The Witcher 3 developer CD Projekt Red has issued a detailed blog post on how its fancy upcoming update will affect the many fan-made mods made for the game. In short, some mods will still work, but others won’t (especially those based on scripts) – and CD Projekt has tested and compiled a list of how the most popular will fare so fans and mod makers can prepare ahead of time. A further group of mods will be included as part of the update – now part of the game proper, with their original creators reimbursed and credited. Read more…
Having a chronic pain disorder has affected my ability to play games in ways that I never thought possible. Pressing buttons rapidly cramps my hands. Using my mechanical keyboard can give me repetitive strain injury, and can leave me using wrist splints for weeks to recover. Gaming is a huge part of my life, being a gaming journalist and a Twitch streamer. However, it can be a detriment to my health and I have to be careful in the games I play, the choices I make and the equipment that I use so that I have the safest and most…
Microsoft agrees 10-year deal to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo if Activision Blizzard buyout goes through
Microsoft has agreed a 10-year deal to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo if its buyout of Activision Blizzard goes through. Xbox boss Phil Spencer tweeted the announcement, which also confirms the company’s commitment to continue to release Call of Duty games on Valve’s Steam platform “simultaneously to Xbox”, if the gargantuan $69 billion offer to buy Activision Blizzard is approved. Call of Duty’s latest releases, Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0, are already on Steam. The announcement is a direct response to the scrutiny the acquisition has come under from a raft of organisations across the world, chief among…
