This year’s World Cup is a little different, as I think we all understand. Amidst headlines on migrant worker conditions, LGBTQ+ rights and criticism of the tournament from both players and fans, it’s been interesting to see how brands – and video games – are noting Qatar 2022. Fortnite has a history with football – and its governing bodies. Some of its most popular skins are based on football kit designs, and the game’s meme-like dances were a fixture of England’s 2018 World Cup squad. Last year, Epic Games officially licensed the likenesses of England’s Harry Kane and Germany’s Marco…
In just five short days, over 25 million Call of Duty players have dipped their toes into the waters of Warzone 2.0. To put this figure into perspective, Warzone 1 reached 30 million players in 10 days. If Warzone 2 keeps up the same momentum, it is safe to assume it will soon exceed these figures. Activision shared the news of this milestone on its social media feeds, thanking those who have taken part in its frenzied battlegrounds so far. Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil In Me Review – true crime antics and dreary puzzles
Tragedy plus time equals… mythology? Cultural fascination with true crime and serial killers is having its moment, and The Devil in Me is comfortable plucking its inspirations from the 1800s. “America’s first serial killer” and serial fraudster may never have had the “murder castle” equipped with traps and torture devices that his mythology credits him with, but it’s a narrative that that The Dark Pictures Anthology runs with for its escape-room slasher entry. The Devil in Me starts at H. H. Holmes’ famed “murder castle”, with an utterly caricaturish Holmes as host, indulging in ominous wordplay that his guests -…
God I love a good werewolf. Werewolves, I propose, are a chance for game designers to be unreasonable. Werewolves do not wait politely to attack. They do not shamble and bunch together like zombies, taking blind swipes at you with the wrist rather than the hand. They do not have rail guns that need powering up. Instead, werewolves come out of nowhere and they’re suddenly right up close. They do not acknowledge your personal space. Werewolves are a flurry of terrifying slashes of the claws, they are berzerk energy and long health bars. Werewolves are jerks and we love them…
EA has delayed its promised fix for excessive autonomous meanness in The Sims 4, meaning players are now going to have to put up with their Sims spontaneously picking fights and ruining each others lives until early December. All this started back in October when, following a patch update, The Sims 4 players began reporting their Sims were autonomously insulting friends, relatives, and passersby at an alarming frequency, causing havoc to their carefully curated stories. Eventually, with insults continuing to fly and households lying in ruin, EA moved to acknowledge the issue, promising a fix would arrive as soon as…
Ubisoft blockbuster Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will launch via Steam, its publisher has confirmed to Eurogamer today. Valhalla comes to Steam on 6th December, with other Ubisoft titles such as city-building strategy Anno 1800 and free-to-play 3v3 sports game Roller Champions also set for release on the platform, albeit at a currently unspecified date. The confirmation means Ubisoft is the latest publisher to make its return to Steam after striking out on its own – or elsewhere, such as the rival Epic Games Store. Footage of a prototype for Wumpa League, the long-rumoured multiplayer brawler set in the Crash Bandicoot universe, has been leaked online. Rumours of the game’s existence began in summer, when it was accidentally let slip by Windows Central. Speculation on a new Crash Bandicoot game increased when Toys for Bob teased their 18th game, and fans are expecting to see a new entry in the series announced at The Game Awards next month. The prototype was leaked yesterday by YouTuber Liam Robertson, for reasons he described as “historical interest”. A short snippet of gameplay is shown along with concept arts.…
If you’re looking to speedrun Pokémon Scarlet or Violet, here’s a cheeky strategy for you. It turns out if you connect two sets of Joy-Con to your Switch, your character will run at double speed when using both left sticks. The strategy was shared over on reddit with a video of the results. Read more Source – eurogamer.net All content and images belong to their respected owners. A former intern at Sony Santa Monica has said that their work on God of War Ragnarök had gone uncredited. Sharing her story on Twitter, composer Jessica Mao stated she “worked on the editing/arrangement/implementation of the Freya chase scene” as well as the “Thor boss fight music”. However, despite her input, Mao said her name was not included in the game’s end credits as her contribution to Ragnarök didn’t hit the “minimum criteria” required (although Mao is unsure what “this criteria could be”). There’s more than a little previewing going on in the latest DF Direct Weekly, as myself, John Linneman and Alex Battaglia share our thoughts and expectations from The Witcher 3’s upcoming ‘next gen’ patch, while initial impressions of the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet release paint a less than positive picture of the new release. We’ll be looking at Pokémon in much more depth later in the week, but the bottom line is that Game Freak delivering two Pokémon titles within the year is perhaps not the best idea: the bugs are memeworthy, the performance is not great generally (circa 22fps to…
