2021 might not have been a banner year for video games (although it was certainly no slouch), but video games there were, and many were sold. SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters Clash, widely regarded as one of the very best games for SNK’s short-lived but much-loved Neo Geo Pocket, has just arrived on the Nintendo Switch. The port follows the likes of King of Fighters R2 and Samurai Shodown! 2 which previously made their way to Nintendo’s hybrid device – and were deftly handled by Code Mystics too. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, the new Nintendo Switch remakes which launched last November, include a fan-favourite Easter egg from the original DS games. For long-term fans of the series, simply saying “diamond dust” will probably be enough to remember this nod to beloved director and composer Junichi Masuda, seen as the father of the modern Pokémon franchise. As 2021 drew to a close, the long-running Yogcast Jingle Jam charity bundle event returned for its latest instalment, this time taking the form of a truly spectacular 56-game bundle – and organisers have now confirmed the endeavour raised a total of £3.3m for good causes.2021’s bundle was impressive enough from a content perspective, gathering up the likes Eurogamer’s Essential-rated Widermyth, linguistics adventure Heaven’s Vault, Viking strategy Northguard, top-down action-adventure Hyper Light Drifter, plus Surviving Mars, Murder by Numbers, 20XX, and a load more. It was absolutely unmissable from a value perspective, however, amounting to around £650 worth of games…
The trilogy of Assassin’s Creed games starring fan-favourite Ezio will arrive for Nintendo Switch on 17th February. This collection has been available for some time on other platforms, and includes remastered versions of Assassin’s Creed 2, Brotherhood and Revelations, plus all single-player DLC. Fortnite’s battle royale mode has always been about escaping the storm. Now, it’s asking you to run towards one.Dynamic weather has been added to the game today, as part of Fortnite’s 19.01 update.
