Pokémon Go has detailed its next in-game season, which will take the compulsive creature-catching app through the summer months. Beginning on 1st June and ending on 1st September, the perhaps unimaginatively named Season of Go will be heavily punctuated by the game’s key summer event: Go Fest. But, happily, there’s also more going on – including the recently-confirmed arrival of Pokémon’s mysterious extra-dimensional Ultra Beasts. The Video Game City Week: the Horseback Statue in Disco Elysium is a reminder of protest
Welcome back to The Video Game City Week. Next stop: statues. The Horseback Monument Statues are important. With egg still drying on the bronzed face of Margaret Thatcher’s newly unveiled Grantham statue (too controversial for its intended spot in Parliament Square), it’d be hard to argue otherwise. If you want to learn about a city, just look at its monuments — they mark the past, freezing idealised moments in time. But just as importantly, they point to the future — a figure’s raised sword directing our eyes towards a desired horizon. For as keen as London’s National Gallery is to teach…

Today brings the first two episodes of the new Obi-Wan Kenobi show for Disney+, so of course the bearded Jedi has also turned up in Fortnite’s item shop. The one downside? You can’t use Obi-Wan’s trusty lightsaber, which instead hangs limply from his trusty Jedi backpack. Fortnite has previously featured lightsabers as weapons – and very fun they are too. You can strike, block and perform a neat little combat roll while holding them, and players facing off against each other will often like to go one-on-one with you as a proper duel. Nintendo Switch Online users will see three more classic games from the SNES and NES era joining the service.”If you were a monkey, just hangin’ out in the jungle with your chimp-chick, and a magic ruby fell out of the sky and zapped you both, turning you into half-humans, and a demon-kid swooped down and made off with your girl – what would you do?”This is the question Nintendo asked us in the 90s, and now we are in the future we can once again answer. What will we do? Why,we will caper of course! Yes, that’s right, Congo’s Caper…
Yesterday, Sony announced plans for a further swathe of PlayStation game adaptations, and noted it had greenlit both a Horizon Zero Dawn series for Netflix and a God of War show for Amazon. Mobile game Plague Inc has celebrated its tenth anniversary via a Reddit Q&A with creator James Vaughan. Over 180 million people have played the game since its release in May 2012, with a spike following the Covid-19 outbreak. Asked how big the uptick in players had been since the pandemic, Vaughan replied: “Interestingly, Plague Inc has always got more popular whenever people get ill, eg When Plague Inc was #1 in Japan – we saw big spikes every time there was a bad flu outbreak. When Ebola was spreading in 2015, we saw a big worldwide spike in players. When…
Ever since its unveiling in 2020, Dead Space creator Glen Schofield’s sci-fi horror The Callisto Protocol has conjured images of Dead Space, so it was a bit of a surprise when, due to various studio connections, it was announced the game would be set in the PUBG Universe. That, however, is no longer the case, with Schofield now saying it’s its “own story and world”. The Callisto Protocol is a third-person horror game set in 2320, with its action unfolding within the confines of the Black Iron prison colony on Jupiter’s moon Callisto. While that set-up mightn’t immediately scream PUBG…
