Just weeks after confirming it was selling off its western studios and IP to Embracer Group for $300m, Square Enix has revealed plans to “establish new studios” and acquire others. Former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé has hinted that “some developer is playing around with an idea” that may bring Nintendo’s space racer F-Zero back to life. Stardew Valley has now sold over 20 million copies. AMD’s Fidelity FX Super Resolution 2.0 has arrived and the first title to sport the technique is Arkane’s wonderful Deathloop, a game already shown to benefit immensely from reconstruction-based upscaling. Reconstruction is what separates FSR 2.0 from its less complex 1.0 predecessor: rather than interpolate out extra detail from the current frame with variable but often unsatisfying results, FSR 2.0 is similar to other modern temporal super-sampling techniques, injecting/reconstructing detail from prior frames into the current one to improve quality while adding anti-aliasing properties too. Game grading company Wata Games is the target of a new US class action lawsuit accusing it of unfair business practices and of manipulating the retro gaming market for its own gain. As reported by VGC, the lawsuit was filed on 10th May in the Central District of California, representing class members (estimated to be as many as 10,000 individuals) who all paid for game grading and other services by Wata. The developer of phenomenally successful role-playing game Genshin Impact has properly revealed its new game after an initial tease. Zenless Zone Zero is an action role-playing game from HoYoverse (which manages all of miHoYo’s global operations outside of China). HoYoverse describe it as an urban fantasy title and an “attempt to further explore action-oriented gameplay”. Sonic remains Sega’s biggest franchise, as the publisher releases its latest financial results. The company has seen a significant increase in its sales over the past year (totalling 320.0bn yen), with Entertainment Contents (divided into full games and free-to-play games, as well as arcade machines, toys, and animation) contributing the most (235.9bn yen).
