Developer Techland has a reputation for delivering exceptional visuals via its own in-house technology – the C-Engine, taking centre-stage in Dying Light 2. With a focus of straddling the console generations while utilising cutting-edge visuals on the latest hardware, the studio promises us a rich density in detail, seamless streaming, upgraded physics, animation and AI. Our first impression? Dying Light 2 can look astonishing – but it’s no secret that it’s exceptionally heavy on the GPU.Three different rendering modes are on offer on PS5 and Series X consoles, all of them delivering something desirable – but the horsepower simply isn’t…
Dying Light 2 is an ugly game. Taking place some 15 years after Techland’s parkour-fuelled 2015 open world original, it’s set against a world completely ravaged by the viral outbreak that began back in Harran, where disputes are solved with a rusty iron pipe to the head and the people holed up in the small number of mediaeval settlements barricaded against the breakout are well beyond hope (this is a grimly prescient thing in more ways than one). With its streets lined by crumbled concrete, patrolled by renegades in hockey masks and spiked leather jackets and where the surly survivor’s…
Guardians of the Galaxy’s unclosing fridge door joke inspired by Modern Family, creative director says
The pesky fridge door in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy that never, ever, closes was inspired by long-running gags from Modern Family and Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia, its creative director has now revealed. While many Marvel fans were likely spending their time hanging out with Groot and co while on board the Milano, others decided to take Star Lord even deeper into the inner workings of the ship. Here, they will have come across a broken fridge door, which in itself is fairly unremarkable. This door can be interacted with, and players can try and close it if they wish,…
Pokémon Legends: Arceus has become another big sales success story for the franchise – just two months after last November’s Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Indeed, Legends: Arceus shifted more boxed copies in the UK than last year’s pair of remakes, and is now the fourth-biggest boxed Pokémon launch in the UK of all time – behind Sun/Moon, Sword/Shield and Alpha Sapphire/Omega Ruby. In my mind, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic has loads of memorable planets, but I don’t know whether it’s because they were brilliant, or because this was simply the first time BioWare had done this: take me from one planet and land me on another. Mass Effect wasn’t a thing then, remember. It was still a whole Jade Empire development away. But 18 years later I can still remember Manaan. And by Manaan, I don’t mean my nan, but the water planet in KOTOR you dived under the surface of, in search of secrets, only to be chased by…
This week, while a lot of you will be (re)exploring the galaxy of the original Mass Effect trilogy, we thought it would be fun to revisit some of our own favourite video game planets. First up, Oli remembers the glory of Halo. Halo’s a planet right? It isn’t? Oh well, nobody said this stuff was simple – just ask Pluto. Halo, the series, owes a lot more than just its name to its original setting. The name is a pretty good start, though, with its evocation of holy reverence, of refracted glory, of encircled perfection. It is the name the…

Having been punted clear of its original 2021 launch window last October, Shadow Warrior 3 finally has a release day, with developer Flying Wild Hog now confirming it’ll be whipping its Wang out on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC from 1st March. This third entry in the delightfully gaudy rebooted FPS series – inspired by 3D Realms’ 1997 shooter Shadow Warrior – once again focuses on the adventures of protagonist Lo Wang, this time on a quest to recapture an ancient dragon unleashed from its eternal prison.Read more Source – eurogamer.net
