Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 2.01 ‘Coming Soon’ With Dogtown Performance Buffs and PS5 Corrupt Save Data Fix

Cyberpunk 2077 may have just received Update 2.0 and its Phantom Liberty expansion but developer CD Projekt has promised Patch 2.01 is “coming soon” with performance improvements in Dogtown and a fix for corrupted save data on PlayStation 5.

Announced on Cyberpunk 2077’s support website, Patch 2.01 doesn’t include a ton of additions to the game-changing 2.0 update but does look to address its two biggest issues: slowdown in Phantom Liberty’s new area and some PS5 users finding their previous game saves busted.

The full patch notes can be viewed below, but CD Projekt said “these are just the highlights”, implying other bugs will be addressed in the update too.

“[We] addressed the issue of corrupted saves on PlayStation by increasing the maximum save file size limit,” CD Projekt said in the post. It does note, however: “This won’t fix the saves corrupted before the update. If you’re experiencing the issue, keep a working save (for example, resave it as manual save) until 2.01 arrives.”

As for the issues in Dogtown, with some users experiencing occasional slowdown and pop-ins, which thankfully come as small complaints compared to the original launch of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt said it has made “performance improvements for both PC and consoles, especially in the Dogtown area”.

Phantom Liberty arrived September 26, with Update 2.0 laying its foundation a few days earlier. It completely revamped Cyberpunk 2077 with features such as a new perk system and improved AI and also brought closure to an Elon Musk fan theory, a reference to the late racing legend Ken Block, and bizarre additions to the game’s biggest mystery.

All this caused a spike in Cyberpunk 2077’s popularity on Steam, a number that only grew as players got their hands on Phantom Liberty, and players are discovering all sorts of neat Easter eggs and references in the new content. Idris Elba’s Solomon Reed can be found deep undercover even before the events of Phantom Liberty, for example, and Dogtown has a harsh response to players driving police vehicles.

Bizarrely, CD Projekt even included a way for players to turn down the events of the paid expansion altogether, with certain dialogue options locking the missions away for good.

In our 9/10 review, IGN said: “Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty completes an immense turnaround for CD Projekt Red’s future RPG kickstarted with the anime spin-off, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and its latest 2.0 Update.”

    Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 2.01 Notes

    • The distorted effect caused by selecting a specific dialogue option when talking to Johnny at the end of Automatic Love will no longer persist on the screen.
    • V will no longer die in The Heist by falling through the elevator when riding to the 42nd floor with low FPS.
    • Fixed an issue where the UI could show controller inputs when playing with keyboard and mouse.
    • Made it possible to properly switch to arms cyberware by cycling through weapons.
    • Gig: Breaking News will be properly triggered after approaching the quest area.
    • Vehicle radio volume will be adjusted so it’s not too quiet when compared to other sounds in the game.
    • Addressed the issue of corrupted saves on PlayStation by increasing the maximum save file size limit. Note: this won’t fix the saves corrupted before the update. If you’re experiencing the issue, keep a working save (e.g. resave it as manual save) till 2.01 arrives.
    • Performance improvements for both PC and consoles, especially in the Dogtown area.
