Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty expansion introduced players to a new area called Dogtown, but its residents really aren’t a big fan of Night City’s police force.
As recorded in IGN’s Cyberpunk 2077 Easter Eggs and References Guide, the private-military controlled area doesn’t even let police officers in. Any player who acquires (steals) a police car or van isn’t allowed to pass through the Dogtown gates, with the residents offering up a rude response to those who try.
“F**k off NCPigs”, a giant red message across the door reads, a play on words of sorts of the Night City Police Department, or NCPD. While the gates to Dogtown usually open as soon as the player approaches, they remain firmly closed while driving a police car.
The lack of police in Dogtown makes sense given it’s a more or less lawless area, with even the abhorrent rest of Night City coming off friendly in comparison. It’s ruled instead by the Barghest which, alongside being a neat reference to the original Witcher game, are a private military run by the vile and violent Kurt Hansen, Phantom Liberty’s big baddie.
The expansion arrived September 26, with the game-changing Update 2.0 laying its foundation a few days earlier. It completely revamped Cyberpunk 2077 with features such as a new perk system and improved AI and also brought closure to an Elon Musk fan theory, a reference to the late racing legend Ken Block, and bizarre additions to the game’s biggest mystery.
