Discover How You Can Train Like A Real Rider In MotoGP 25 With The New Race Off Modes

    • Matteo Pezzotti, Game Director, MotoGP25

    Summary

    • The new chapter of the MotoGP franchise allows you to train like a real rider with the new Race Off modes.
    • Discover how Milestone’s team implemented three very different types of bikes for a unique and different gameplay experience.
    • MotoGP 25 is available on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.

The new instalment of the MotoGP series is finally here for Xbox consoles, MotoGP 25. This year, the game features many innovations in both gameplay and technology. One of them is the Race Off modes, where players can dive even deeper into the life of a real rider by training with three unique bikes.

    Let’s Train

Over the years we have talked to many riders from all categories, and they have all told us how important it is to train to constantly improve their abilities in order to perform at their best on the track. In the previous chapters of the franchise, we were able to add many features that helped the players to feel closer and closer to the real sport, but there was still the training part of it that was missing. We are very happy that we were able to include it in the 2025 chapter. It was a very difficult challenge, but our talented team did an incredible job.

Our goal was not only to include the final piece of the rider’s life in a gamified form, but also to give the player a more relaxed moment in their playtime, to have fun in a different environment away from the tension of the official MotoGP races. We took inspiration from real life to create both the bikes and the environments. As you may know, riders cannot use their official bikes to train, so they use different types of two-wheelers that allow them to improve their riding skills. We also wanted to convey the sense of camaraderie that you can see when riders from all categories get together to train.

As for the setting, we wanted to take MotoGP fans to the heart of the sport, Europe. Our team has created four original tracks, both tarmac and off-road, set in two environments that capture the ideal characteristics of the perfect training ground. Players will find a warmer place set in the Maremma’s hills in Tuscany and a colder one in the French Alps. They will be like big theme parks for riders to meet, chat and have fun away from the classic race weekends.

Three New Bikes, Three New Riding Styles

The three bikes available in the Race Off modes, Motard, Flat Track and Minibikes, are very different in both size and handling. We had to study them to reproduce them accurately, but more importantly, we had to differentiate the physics systems to bring back the feeling of riding these bikes, while maintaining a fun and a gameplay oriented approach, just like we do with the classic MotoGP. For the first time since the adoption of Unreal Engine, the franchise goes off-road, so we also had to work on the surfaces to accurately reproduce the unique tracks on which Flat Tracks runs. It is a discipline based on drifting and low traction due to the presence of sand on the surfaces. We have created a physics system that simulates this lack of grip, so that you will have to constantly control the back of your bike to balance drifts and speed. The Flat Track will teach you how to deal with traction loss, a skill that you can apply to every other type of bike available in the game. This was the most challenging bike to create. We had to reproduce the physics and the handling of a bike that is very difficult to master while keeping the gameplay fun and accessible.

Minibikes are the most particular bike we have ever had. They are very small and less powerful than any of the other bike, but they are incredibly agile. They run on the same tarmac tracks as Motard, but the handling is very different. Given their lack of power, to be competitive you will have to find the ideal trajectory and hit the apex perfectly.

Finally, the Motard uses the same chassis as the Flat Track, but runs on smaller tarmac circuits such as kart tracks. It is still a very agile bike, but it is also much more powerful than a Minibike, so to master it you have to learn to balance the brake and the throttle, especially when coming out of corners. The engine brake is also very powerful, so it is an extra element to take into account while playing.

Hone Your Skills Like A Real Pro in Career Mode

The Race Off modes will be accessible both online and offline, through a dedicated section in the main menu, but they are a fundamental part of the renewed career mode. As mentioned earlier, we wanted to include these disciplines to ease the tension between race weekends and that’s exactly where you will be invited by other riders to take part in these training sessions. By accepting, you will also be able to boost your rider’s physical performance, a first for the franchise. Improving your form will help you approach certain race situations more easily, such as handling the bike during turns. You will receive three different invitations every time, one for each bike. You can choose which one you want to accept to try everything or to specialize yourself in a single discipline. Training invitations are also connected to the other career systems such as the relationships one. In MotoGP 25 everything will be super connected, and you will see every consequence both on and off track. We really wanted to add these new mechanics to the game, to bring you closer than ever to the life of a real rider, for a true and immersive experience, we can’t wait to see you all racing on these new bikes!

Thank you for your time, I hope that you enjoy the new Race Off modes and that they bring you even closer to the MotoGP universe. Keep on racing!
