Fishing Comes to Fallout 76 with Gone Fission

    • Gabriel Santiago, Associate Content Manager

Grab your tackle box and your waders and head for the water, because Fallout 76’s newest update just reeled in a huge new feature. On June 3, Bethesda Game Studios released Gone Fission, a free Fallout 76 update available now for all players, bringing a highly anticipated activity to Appalachia: Fishing!

This peaceful wasteland activity lets players catch fish all over Appalachia. Chill out and swap stories of the apocalypse with your friends at your favorite radioactive body of water in any region of the map and catch more than 30 types of fish. Remember, wherever you can swim, you can fish!

At the end of a relaxing day catching the river’s bounty, you’ll be able to cook up a batch of nutritious new recipes. Fish is a great source of nutrition. Once you’ve learned to fish, you’ll learn how to cook and eat everything you catch with a whole bunch of Cooking Station recipes to collect.

Gone Fission also includes a new location in the Mire region of Appalachia called Fisherman’s Rest. There, players will encounter a trio of unusual characters: the being known only as The Fisherman; the strangely vacant-eyed Captain Raymond Clark; and Linda Lee, an enormous but gentle hermit crab who has taken up residence, and is named after, Captain Clark’s wrecked fishing boat. These fascinating new NPCs will introduce players to a new questline, “Casting Off,” through which they can acquire their first fishing rod. The Fisherman and Captain Clark also provide players with a Daily Fishing Quest, with requests for specific interesting fish every day – the rewards will be useful on your adventures.

Making sure your fishing rod is up to snuff and using the right bait is important—there are a variety of rod styles, bobbers and reels to change your fishing rod’s appearance, as well as different types of bait that will allow you to catch an assortment of fish, each one stranger than the next. Some fish are even dubbed Local Legends and can only be caught in very specific areas of Appalachia. Plus, keep an eye out for the adorable collectible salamanders, the Axolotls, with a different one available to find each month.

Speaking on behalf of the whole team, Jonathan Rush, Creative Director on Fallout 76, said, “We can’t wait to see what our tenacious trawlers fish out of the Appalachian waters!”
