Comic book fans who play Magic: The Gathering will be happy to know that Wizards of the Coast and Marvel are teaming up for a collaboration that will see notable Marvel characters join the widely popular tabletop card game… but you’re gonna have to wait a while.

In a press release, Wizards of the Coast announced that its parent company, Hasbro, is teaming up with the comic book publisher to “develop collectible products” and tentpole sets featuring popular characters from Marvel. According to Wizards of the Coast, the products from this collaboration are not expected to be available for purchase until 2025.
“Trading cards have always been a part of Marvel’s DNA, so this collaboration takes that experience to a whole new level,” Marvel Comics and Franchise President Dan Buckley wrote in the press release. “With the depth that our storytelling and characters bring to the table, we can’t wait for fans to see how the Marvel Universe translates seamlessly into gameplay within these Magic: The Gathering products and sets for years to come.”
What’s interesting about the collaboration is that it is a “multi-year, multi-set” deal, unlike previous one-off collaborations, such as the Fallout collab announced back in August. The Marvel press release announcing the collaboration explains how the first tentpole will go on sale globally in 2025, with more sets “for multi-generational fans to collect and play” expected to be released sometime down the road after the first set is out.
Marvel and Fallout join other widely popular entertainment and gaming franchises that had collaborations with Magic: The Gathering, including Final Fantasy, Assassin’s Creed, The Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who, Stranger Things, and Warhammer 40K.
