Mario Kart 8 Deluxe 3.0.1. Patch Fixes Anti-Bagging Measures Accidentally Triggering

Nintendo has released update 3.0.1. for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which acts as the Switch game’s first patch following the recently released major 3.0 update.

Detailed on Nintendo’s Support website, version 3.0.1 isn’t as big as the previous update — which removed the controversial bagging strategy after nearly a decade — but does include several fixes for changes made in it.

This includes a fix for the anti-bagging measures accidentally triggering, as Nintendo points out it’s “fixed an issue where the player was unable to acquire a strong item even though they did not take an Item Box by stopping or going in reverse during a race, or take an item countless times from an Item Box in same location, when the communication is unstable during an online match.”

Bagging essentially involved starting slow and driving through Item Boxes over and over to stockpile overpowered items. The update stopped this from being possible, but seemingly stopped some players who were genuinely struggling from gaining good items too.

Also included in this latest update is a fix for the glider not opening on Vancouver Velocity, an inescapable crevice on Rome Avanti, and a bizarre issue where a Mii racer’s head would get extremely large or small when playing the highlight reel. The full patch notes are available below.

Here are the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe update 3.0.1 patch notes in full:

    Fixed Issues

    • Fixed an issue where the player was unable to acquire a strong item even though they did not take an Item Box by stopping or going in reverse during a race, or take an item countless times from an Item Box in same location, when the communication is unstable during an online match.
    • Fixed an issue where the glider did not open when getting on a glide ramp that is past the suspension bridge in Tour Vancouver Velocity.
    • Fixed an issue where the player might fall into a crevice in the cliff and not be able to move in Tour Rome Avanti.
    • Fixed an issue where the player would be floating in mid-air after driving out of the course without being carried back in by Lakitu in GC DK Mountain.
    • Fixed an issue where the player would sometimes not be able to move when riding on the statues in Wii Daisy Circuit.
    • Fixed an issue where actions and expressions did not match for some characters that were added in the Booster Course Pass.
    • Fixed an issue where a Mii’s head would get extremely large or small when playing the highlight reel.

Update 3.0.0 of Mario Kart 8 also added the final wave of Booster Course Pass tracks alongside a Music button that lets players listen to the game’s songs without playing, a feature that lets players who aren’t friends join each others’ rooms, and more. You can read the full patch notes below.

In our 9/10 review of the game, IGN said: “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still a gorgeous game and the overhauled Battle mode is a great reason to pick it up.”
