Modding Starfield Blocks Achievements, So Modders Modded That Out

Starfield mods can do anything from improve its systems to break the game, but installing one also turns off achievements — so someone modded that out.

As reported by VG247, one player has now created a pretty major workaround for achievement hunters on Steam. Brunph on modding website NexusMods has created the aptly titled Achievement Enabler mod, which essentially allows endless meddling without any consequences.

Without the mod, Starfield saves are very sensitive to exploits. Using console commands (a list of which can be found in IGN’s Starfield guide) or installing mods essentially marks the player as a cheater, meaning any saves using them can no longer obtain Steam achievements.

While it’s unclear if the Achievement Enabler mod allows console commands to be used without consequences, it definitely allows mods. This means players can install some pretty exploitative upgrades that make achievement hunting a lot easier.

There is a more innocent side of this, of course, as it also lets Starfield players install mods that just improve certain features without breaking the game and still enjoy achievement hunting. Bethesda’s own inventory system has been a big frustration for many players, for example, so someone made a mod to improve it. Turning off achievements for someone installing this is perhaps a little harsh, but adding the Achievement Enabler mod will allow players to continue as normal.

Starfield has been flooded with mods even ahead of its official launch on September 6, with its one million plus players inventing new ways to play the space epic. While some of these, like the PlayStation Studios splash screen, are on the sillier side, others look to address issues with the base version of the game.

DLSS support and an FOV slider were added the first day Starfield became available, for example, but it’s not all been fun and games as a debate was also sparked over paid mods.

In our 7/10 review, IGN said: “Starfield has a lot of forces working against it, but eventually the allure of its expansive roleplaying quests and respectable combat make its gravitational pull difficult to resist.”
