Mortal Kombat 1’s Omni-Man Is Cheaper Than the Halloween Fatality and Even His Own Announcer Pack

Mortal Kombat 1’s aggressive monetisation has once again come under fire from players after Nintendo spilled the beans on the standalone price of the Omni-Man DLC character.

The Nintendo eShop currently displays the $7.99 price of Omni-Man, who arrives in Mortal Kombat 1 as a standalone purchase later this week after his early access arrival as part of Kombat Pack 1.

Players of the full-price, $70 fighting game were quick to point out that Omni-Man’s price, which cements publisher Warner Bros. Games’ strategy of setting characters at $7.99, is further evidence of Mortal Kombat 1’s “wild” monetisation.

Omni-Man, who of course comes complete with eye-catching Fatalities lifted from the Invincible Amazon Prime series, is cheaper than the recently released and highly controversial Halloween Fatality, which cost $10. (Warner Bros. Games subsequently said it “appreciated” fans’ “feedback” when it announced those who’d bought the Halloween Fatality would also get the upcoming Thanksgiving Fatality and a winter Fatality “free” as a make-good).

Making matters worse, Warner Bros. Games is currently selling the Omni-Man announcer pack, voiced by J. K. Simmons, for 1,000 Dragon Krystals. That’s another $10 on top even for those who bought the $39.99 Kombat Pack 1, and it’s more expensive than Omni-Man himself. The announcer pack sees Omni-Man say iconic Mortal Kombat lines such as “Fight!” and “Finish Him!”.

Y’all can’t be this stupid. Stop buying at these inflated ass prices!

It’s the only feasible reason they kept the price this fkn high. We have a couple of dipshit whales buying anything the second it drops. Fuck y’all for turning rewards and replayability into a cash grab. Fuk U https://t.co/oxe49qU7t9

10 usd for a few voice lines from Omni-man yet his DLC character cost 7? Make the prices make sense. You telling me 7 skins is worth the full price of the game. The prices are inflated af and as long as doofuses keep buying it the prices will only get worse. It’s about the whole.

Omni-Man is also cheaper than Mortal Kombat 1’s most-coveted premium skins. Last week, Warner Bros. Games released the classic Deadly Alliance skin for Li Mei, which costs 1,000 Dragon Krystals / $10.

As you’d expect, Mortal Kombat 1 players aren’t particularly thrilled, although at this point they’re not surprised at Warner Bros. Games’ continued monetisation missteps. “We are now at a point where skins, Fatalities, and announcers cost more than a full blown character,” lamented redditor Foreign_Education_88. “The MK economy is wild.”

While Omni-Man is well-received in gameplay terms, it’s worth noting that unlike other characters, his max level is set to 20, he has no alternative skins (just palette swaps), and he has fewer Brutalities. IGN has just reported on Antony Starr, who plays Homelander in Amazon Prime show The Boys, confirming he is not voicing the famous supervillain in Mortal Kombat 1, much to the disappointment of fans.

Warner Bros. has said Mortal Kombat 1 has sold over three million copies since it went on sale, although sales of the game appear to be down compared to its predecessor, Mortal Kombat 11, across Europe. If you’re playing, check out IGN’s Mortal Kombat 1 Fatality list and button inputs guide.
