My Time at Portia Dev Announces Sequel for PC, Xbox Series X and S, PS5 and ‘Future Nintendo Platforms Yet to Be Announced’

With Nintendo fan excitement for Switch 2 reaching fever pitch, developers are starting to say they’re planning to release their upcoming games on the unannounced next-generation console.

The latest is Pathea Games, developer of the multi-million selling RPG/farming/life series My Time. It’s just announced My Time At Evershine, which is designed to build on the success of cozy games My Time At Sandrock and My Time At Portia with a new art style, single-player campaign, city management gameplay, and multiplayer co-op.

Pathea said it’s taking its first steps in developing the sequel and is launching a Kickstarter campaign to support it. “My Time at Sandrock cost a lot, like $12-million-a-lot, and still counting, we expect Evershine’s budget to be somewhere in the ballpark as well,” said Zifei Wu, creative director of the My Time series.

“Having extra funding at this early stage of development allows us to plan for bigger and better features, and allows the community to give us direct feedback while we’re still deciding key elements of the game’s design and execution.”

Within its note to press, Pathea said it’s “committed” to launching My Time At Evershine on PC, Xbox Series X and S, PS5 and “future Nintendo platforms yet to be announced.” It’s the latter that’s raised eyebrows, given Nintendo has yet to pull back the curtain on its next-gen console itself.

It’s worth noting that with a Kickstarter for My Time At Evershine waiting in the wings, Pathea will be keen to catch the internet’s attention and suggesting the game will launch on Switch 2 will certainly help. But with rumors swirling that Nintendo will announce its Switch successor sooner rather than later (Nintendo itself has only committed to making the announcement before April 2025), it stands to reason that multiple developers are preparing games for it.

Nintendo has also said it won’t release the Switch 2 before the end of its current financial year, which runs to March 31, 2025. When it does eventually release the console, Nintendo expects to have plenty of stock available, which in turn will hopefully combat scalping. Recent alleged details on the power of the Switch 2 weren’t the first rumors to spread about Nintendo’s new console.

Other allegedly leaked details have suggested that the device will feature magnetic versions of the Joy-Cons and maybe even let players use their old controllers. If these recent rumors are to be believed, you’ll also be able to enjoy your physical and digital games on the Switch 2.

So, what other games can fans expect to see on Switch 2? Last year, Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot said he regretted releasing Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope on the Nintendo Switch, and wished the company had instead waited for the console’s successor. Perhaps we will see a Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope Switch 2 port, then.
