After a pretty on-the-nose tease from Geoff Keighley, Techland has officially revealed a new Dying Light game at Gamescom Opening Night Live, entitled Dying Light: The Beast.
As seen in the trailer, The Beast features the return of protagonist Kyle Crane, and features a new open world region and 20 hours of gameplay.
According to a press release, The Beast is a full standalone game set in the post-apocalyptic Castor Woods. The player, as Kyle Crane (voiced once more by Roger Craig Smith), escapes after being held captive and experimented on for 13 years following his previous appearances in the series. Now free, he seeks revenge on those who help them captive. The titular “beast” is a massive monster roaming the woods…but Crane, following the experiments conducted on him, now has zombie DNA woven in with his own, giving him a “beast-like power” that he can use to take down. So who’s to say who’s really the beast of the title?
The Beast will feature four-player co-op with shared progression, but also allow for solo players. What’s more, owners of Dying Light 2: Stay Human Ultimate Edition will receive The Beast for free (it’s $39.99 for everyone else). While the game originally started as a story DLC for Dying Light 2, after two years it “evolved into a standalone, self-contained experience.”
Dying Light: The Beast is coming to PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, Xbox, and PlayStation at an unknown date. The release date is expected to be shared later this year.
