PlayStation Plus Games for May 2024 Announced

Sony has unveiled the PlayStation Plus games for May 2024, revealing four games active PlayStation Plus subscribers can redeem as one of their many perks for being a member.

As detailed in a new PlayStation Blog post, starting on May 7th, the following games are free to redeem for PlayStation Plus Essential, Extra, and Premium members: Tunic, Destiny 2: Lightfall, Ghostrunner 2, and EA Sports FC 24.

Tunic is an action-adventure game initially released on PC and Xbox before making its way onto Nintendo Switch and PlayStation consoles later that same year. The game may remind some of early entries from The Legend of Zelda series, which is no surprise considering that Tunic designer Andrew Shouldice said NES-era Zelda games inspired this project.

In our review of Tunic, my colleague Ryan McCaffrey wrote: “Tunic is an unapologetically challenging action-adventure game that is charming, multi-layered, and immensely rewarding to solve.”

Destiny 2: Lightfall is the most recently released expansion for Bungie’s popular looter shooter. Released in February 2023, many critics and players have argued it was a step backward for the series. So much so that Bungie formally acknowledged fans’ mixed reception of the expansion last November following a wave of layoffs at the studio.

In our review of Destiny 2: Lightfall, IGN wrote: “A couple of exciting additions like Strand don’t stop Destiny 2: Lightfall from feeling like a disappointing step backwards.”

Nevertheless, picking this up at no additional cost is not a bad idea if you want to play through all the Destiny 2 expansions before The Final Shape releases next month.

Released less than a year ago, Ghostrunner 2 is a sequel to the 2020 action platform game Ghostrunner. Like its predecessor, Ghostrunner 2 continues the fast-paced action with a visually stunning cyberpunk aesthetic.

In our review of Ghostrunner 2, which was awarded a 9 out of 10, IGN wrote: “Ghostrunner 2 is a sequel that builds upon everything that made the first game great, leading to 10-12 hours of absolutely action-packed, high speed, cyberninja excellence, along with a great, replayable, roguelike mode as well.”

Much like its Madden NFL and NHL video game franchises, EA Sports FC 24 is an annual sports game by Electronic Arts. EA Sports FC 24 is the inaugural entry in the EA Sports FC series after Electronic Art’s partnership with FIFA ended in 2022.

In our review of EA Sports FC 24, IGN wrote: “It might have a new name, but EA Sports FC 24 is just about the same frustrating but beautiful game that FIFA has been for many years.”

Those who have yet to download April 2024’s PlayStation Plus games, Immortals of Aveum, Minecraft Legends, and Skul: The Hero Slayer, have until May 6 to redeem their free digital copies.
