Silent Hill 2 Remake Developer Appeals for Patience as Fans Get Jittery

The developer of the hotly anticipated Silent Hill 2 remake has taken the unusual step of appealing for patience as calls for gameplay from eager fans intensify.

After months of rumour and speculation, Konami announced the Silent Hill 2 remake as part of its Silent Hill Transmission event in October 2022. During the event, Konami showcased a three-minute trailer that provided a look at the famously foggy town in 4K. In addition to providing glimpses of Pyramid Head and other notable elements from the original game, the trailer confirmed that Bloober Team, the Polish studio best known for horror games Layers of Fear and The Medium, had been signed to handle development.

But we’ve not seen anything more of the game in the year since, leaving fans to feed on scraps of information gleaned from interviews. And following the launch of the heavily criticised interactive streaming series Silent Hill: Ascension, and confusion over what sounded like the inclusion of a “special origin story” for Pyramid Head, it’s fair to say fans are eager to see more of the Silent Hill 2 remake.

It looks like Bloober Team is bearing the brunt of the community calls for more footage, which as the game’s developer is perhaps unfair. In a tweet published last week, Bloober directed fans to Konami, the company it said was responsible for Silent Hill’s marketing.

“When could we expect to get some news on the Remake, or is that up to Konami?” Twitter / X user @SodaRMT asked. “It’s kinda hard to be stuck in the fog for over a year with nothing new, even some screenshots would be nice.”

Here’s Bloober’s blunt response: “Konami is the publisher of the game and communication is definitely part of their job.”

It appears Bloober has had enough of this sort of thing from fans, so much so that it felt the need to release a statement on its social media channels over the weekend that moves to pressure fans that all is well with the game, but also to point out that announcements will come from Konami, not the developer.

    Here’s the statement in full:

“As Bloober team, we are proud to be a part of Konami’s plan for the Silent Hill franchise. Alongside our partner, we are diligently working to ensure the Silent Hill 2 remake attains the highest quality.

“On behalf of our development team, we would like to clarify that the production is progressing smoothly and in accordance with our schedule. We understand that many players around the world are eagerly anticipating news about the game, and we appreciate your dedication.

“However, we kindly ask for a bit more patience. Once Konami, as the game’s publisher, shares more information, we are confident that the wait will be worthwhile

“Thank you for your understanding and support!”

Reaction to the statement is mixed. While there is plenty of support for Bloober, alongside some comments calling the statement what it really is (ask Konami!), concern remains about the status of the Silent Hill 2 remake.

This is basically a “ASK KONAMI YOUR COWARDS”

I’m excited for Pyramid Head’s origin story where we play as him in high-school getting bullied and shoved in a locker. Walking home from school he sees a construction site and picks up a traffic cone and puts it on his head. Dubbing himself Pyramid Head
