Silent Hill 2 Remake Resurfaces at Last With New Trailer but No Release Date – State of Play 2024

After months of speculation and leaks, Blooper Team’s highly-anticipated remake of Silent Hill 2 has resurfaced at last. Silent Hill 2 was shown during Wednesday’s State of Play presentation, but unfortunately without a release date.

As part of the State of Play presentation today, the new trailer showcased new gameplay. A 2024 release date would not be entirely surprising as Sony prematurely announced earlier this month in a trailer that Silent Hill 2 Remake, along with other games such as Rise of the Ronin and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, were all slated to release this year on PS5.

Blooper Team first announced it was remaking Silent Hill 2 in 2022. Following its announcement, Blooper Team confirmed that while the gameplay will be updated, the development team is not making any changes to the story.

“We are focusing on bringing the distinct, visceral atmosphere back in the modernized Silent Hill 2,” Blooper Team Chief Marketing Officer Anna Jasińska said in an interview with Dread XP in January 2023.

After the announcement, Silent Hill 2 largely disappeared from public view, leading to consternation from fans. Bloober Team did say that it’s focusing in on the mass market while refuting claims that the remake will feature Pyramid Head’s origin story.

Silent Hill 2 was originally released in 2001 on the PlayStation 2 and is often regarded as one of the best horror games ever made and one of the best games released on Sony’s sixth-generation home gaming system. However, the game would eventually make its way onto the original Xbox and PC, too.

“Konami’s effort is a damn scary game, entirely worth every last cent. It’s frightening, deep, clever, and tries to improve the genre if just a little, and in the end, that’s all I really want in a survival horror game,” we wrote in our review of Silent Hill 2.

Today’s Silent Hill 2 news was part of a broader stream from PlayStation, which also included new info on Rise of the Ronin, Stellar Blade, and more. For more, check out everything announced during today’s State of Play presentation.
