Starfield’s 1.7.33 Update Addresses Star Lens Flares Issues on AMD GPUs

Bethesda Game Studios has released a new patch for Starfield. While minor, it does improve performance and addresses an issue for some AMD GPUs not properly displaying star lens flares.

Announced on the Bethesda website, Patch 1.7.33 addresses performance and stability problems while tweaking some gameplay issues. The biggest one comes for the PC version, specifically for those with AMD graphics cards in their rigs. As pointed out by TechSpot, earlier this month, some AMD GPU users reported an issue where it was daylight, but star lens flares (aka when light is scattered or flared due to bright light) were not visible, with several people on Reddit posting reporting and/or posting screenshots of the issue.

Another standout in Patch 1.7.33 addresses an upscaling feature that was causing textures to become blurry. As a reminder, Starfield offers two official upscaling tech: AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution 2 (FSR 2) and FidelityFX Contrast Adaptive Sharpening (CAS). While there is unofficial support for Nvidia’s DLSS and Intel’s XeSS via mods, Bethesda previously confirmed it will finally add official support for Nvidia’s supersampling tech.

Performance issues and (mostly funny bugs) aside, Starfield has become a big hit for Bethesda, with the game hitting 10 million players since it came out on Sept. 1, making it the biggest game launch in the studio’s history.

In our review of Starfield, which we awarded a 7 out of 10, IGN said: “Starfield has a lot of forces working against it, but eventually, the allure of its expansive roleplaying quests and respectable combat make its gravitational pull difficult to resist.”
