Bethesda Game Studios will add the latest iteration of AMD’s supersampling tech FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) into Starfield this month.
In a post on the official Bethesda Game Studios X/Twitter account, Bethesda revealed that FSR 3 will be added to Starfield via Steam Beta next week. FSR 3’s addition will roll out publicly to all PC players later this month “ahead of our next scheduled update,” Bethesda added.
FSR 3 is the third generation of AMD’s answer to Nvidia’s supersampling tech DLSS, which adds frame generation technology to supported games. However, unlike DLSS, which only works on RTX GPUs, AMD’s supersampling tech can work on AMD, Nvidia, and Intel graphics cards.
Starfield previously supported FSR 2 when the game was originally launched last year, though PC players who wanted FSR 3 had to add it via mods unofficially. Most notably, the DLSSG-to-FSR3 mod allowed gamers to swap Nvidia’s DLSS Frame Generation (DLSSG) into FSR 3 to provide higher frame rates in certain games.
Starfield’s support for FSR 3 makes it part of a growing list of games supporting the latest iteration of AMD’s supersampling tech. Additional games supporting FSR 3 include Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name.
As Bethesda previously noted, there is another Starfield update scheduled for this month. Last December, in a Reddit post, Bethesda’s wording suggested story expansion Shattered Space would be released in February.
In our review of Starfield, we said: “Starfield has a lot of forces working against it, but eventually, the allure of its expansive roleplaying quests and respectable combat make its gravitational pull difficult to resist.”
