PlayStation Black Friday deals are in full swing. PlayStation 5 owners, if you are looking for a new game to add to your library, why not consider The Last of Us Part 2? You can nab a physical copy for just $20 on PlayStation Direct.
While the game was released over three years ago exclusively for the PlayStation 4, there are a few reasons why you may want to pick it up if you have not already. For one, the PS4 version is backward-compatible and has a few tech advantages, mainly the DualSense controller.
But the biggest incentive for PS5 owners to buy The Last of Us Part 2 is the fact that Naughty Dog recently announced that the game is being remastered for Sony’s ninth-generation console. And there’s an upgrade path – if you own the PS4 version of The Last of Us Part 2 (digital or physical), you can get a digital copy of the remaster for $10.
Of course, if you are going to buy the physical copy of Part II, I should note a caveat with choosing this method of the upgrade path: if you buy a physical copy of the PS4 version, you must insert the PS4 disc every single time you want to play the remastered on your PS5. It’s a minor headache, but spending $30 for two games is not a bad deal for some. Nevertheless, this is a caveat you should consider. Otherwise, you can buy a digital copy at its current MSRP of $39.99.
“The Last of Us Part 2 is a masterpiece that evolves the gameplay, cinematic storytelling, and rich world design of the original in nearly every way,” my erstwhile colleague Jonathon Dornbush wrote in his 10/10 review of the game.
