Following its appearance during the Xbox @ gamescom 2025 Broadcast earlier today, The Rogue Prince of Persia is available today, and there are a ton of acrobatic moves, magic items, and story twists to discover in this thrilling 2D action roguelike.
In this new adventure, the Prince has triggered an invasion of the Persian capital city by an army of Huns corrupted by dark magic. Waking up days after the disastrous initial fight in a mysterious oasis outside the city, the Prince must fix his mistakes, fighting through the besieged capital again and again.
Why again and again? Well, every time he dies, the Prince wakes up back in the oasis, thanks to the magical bola that was gifted to him as a child. Only by exploring the entire city, and rescuing key characters to help him, will he be able to find the one and only path that will let him stop the invasion.
How can one man fight through an entire city? By being a master of acrobatic combat, of course.
The iconic wall-run from the Prince of Persia series is the backbone of the game, giving you the freedom and flexibility to evade deadly traps, outmaneuver fiendish enemies, and navigate each level with creativity and style. The Prince can also vault over enemies, swing off poles to keep momentum, and dive down to stun his foes.
What should be a dangerous city full of warriors and traps will become a playground for those who can master the game – here’s how to get started.
Be Creative With Your Moveset

Facing off against a horde of enemies corrupted by dark magic sounds intimidating, but the Prince has many moves that can be used in numerous ways.
Take the kick for example. The kick on its own will interrupt an enemy’s attack and push them back, giving you time and space to attack. So far, so good.
But you can also kick one enemy into another, stunning them both for a couple of seconds. Then, observe the environment around you; each level may feature spinning saws, big drops, or floor traps – all deadly hazards just one kick away.
Now consider how the kick ability can combo with your other moves. You can vault over enemies to dodge their attacks and place yourself behind them. Use the wall-run to open up new angles of attack, or position yourself for a dive attack which will stun your enemies and leave them vulnerable. Stitching all of these moves together on the fly is intuitive and fun, leading you into a flow state of acrobatic and environmental combat that rewards creativity.
And we haven’t even gotten to the weapons yet!
Experiment With Equipment

Ok, let’s talk weapons. Somersaulting, wall-running and vaulting are all well and good, but if you want to do some damage, then you’re going to need weapons. Fortunately, there are a ton in The Rogue Prince of Persia – we’ve got spears, scythes, knuckle dusters, grappling hooks, bows, and much more.
The weapons vary widely in attack speed, damage, and range; plus, each has their own special attack and their own criteria for critical hits. This arsenal enables many different styles of engaging with the enemy, and this flexibility is further amplified by which medallions you equip.
Medallions are what give you your “build” each run. You’ll typically equip 6-8 medallions by the end of a run, and you’ll find many to choose from. Some offer basic buffs, like an increase to weapon damage, while others are more complex. Consider “critical hits stun nearby enemies” and “attacks have a chance to burn enemies;” if you have a weapon that you find is easy to get critical hits with, you’ll likely take the former, but if you have a weapon with fast attacks, the latter will probably be more useful. If you have a weapon that does both, you’re laughing as you cut a burning swath through your foes.
There are also medallions with even more dramatic effects like “have a chance to block damage but all healing is reduced” or “revive to 50% health if you die.”
As you can probably start to see, medallions will create synergies with other medallions and with specific weapons, unlocking some serious power if you choose right. Our advice is to just experiment and have fun with it, you’ll soon see what works!
Explore Everywhere

Now that you have your combat primer, what about actually stopping the invasion?!
With each foray into the city, you’ll find new clues and characters, unlocking new biomes & items, and advancing the story. At the end of most areas, you’ll have a choice of where to go next; you can’t visit every area in one run, so you’ll need to pick which regions you go through carefully if you want to save your people.
Only by exploring the entire city, from the depths of the mines to the top of the lighthouse, will you unlock the one path that will give you the chance to change the fate of Persia.
Make sure you look for clues and visit new areas to keep advancing towards the final fight. If you get stuck, there’s a handy Mind Map in your menu that will remind you of what you’ve already discovered and where you might want to look next to take the next step towards saving Persia once and for all.
That should be enough to get you started, but the best way to learn is by doing, so go and dive into The Rogue Prince of Persia!
