Until Dawn PS5 and PC Ports Reportedly in the Works

It appears another popular PS4 game is making its way onto modern platforms as Dealabs’ reputable reporter billbil-kun says that Supermassive’s 2015 horror game Until Dawn is getting ported to PC and PS5.

According to billbil-kun, an announcement for Until Dawn’s PC and PS5 version will “take place within 15 days,” with this enhanced version apparently in development for “at least a year.” Not many details were shared outside the obvious: that these newer versions will provide improvements to graphics and performance. IGN has asked Sony for comment.

As Digital Foundry pointed out, Until Dawn’s PS4 release, while visually stunning, had “some unusual performance levels,” noting that the biggest drawback to the game was its framerate (and the lack of it being locked to 30FPS). Digital Foundry’s report notes that the framerates in Until Dawn varied, dropping to as low as 20FPS or reaching as high as 40FPS in rare instances.

Until Dawn is a horror game in which players control a group of friends who are in a lodge located on a snowy moutain and must survive the night. Much like Supermassive’s later projects, such as The Dark Pictures Anthology, Until Dawn is a choose-your-own adventure game where your story unfolds and characters live or die based on the choices you make.

Until Dawn became a massive hit for the studio in part thanks to content creators streaming or posting content on platforms like YouTube. In an interview with Eurogamer in 2015, former President of SIE Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida revealed that Until Dawn was a “sleeper hit” for the company.

In our review of Until Dawn, we said: “Until Dawn is an inconsistent horror game, but it’s still a heck of a lot of fun.”

The leak comes nearly a week after it was announced that Until Dawn is getting adapted for the big screen, with the director behind Lights Out and Shazam! director David F. Sandberg attached to the project.
