{"id":38198,"date":"2023-11-04T18:02:50","date_gmt":"2023-11-04T18:02:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.xtremeservers.com\/blog\/bungie-acknowledges-difficult-week-in-first-statement-since-layoffs\/"},"modified":"2023-11-04T18:02:50","modified_gmt":"2023-11-04T18:02:50","slug":"bungie-acknowledges-difficult-week-in-first-statement-since-layoffs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.xtremeservers.com\/blog\/bungie-acknowledges-difficult-week-in-first-statement-since-layoffs\/","title":{"rendered":"Bungie Acknowledges \u2018Difficult&#8217; Week in First Statement Since Layoffs"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<section class=\"article-page\">\n<p>Following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/bungie-hit-with-lay-offs-as-destiny-2-the-final-shape-and-marathon-are-reportedly-delayed\">layoffs a few days ago<\/a>, Bungie has published a statement about the &#8220;difficult&#8221; week the studio had as the developer alludes to some of its plans moving forward. <\/p>\n<section data-transform=\"mobile-ad-break\"><\/section>\n<p>&#8220;This has been one of the most difficult weeks in our studio\u2019s history, as we\u2019ve parted ways with people we respect and admire,&#8221; the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bungie.net\/7\/en\/News\/article\/ourpathforward\">blog post<\/a> begins, addressing the layoffs that affected roughly 100 employees. &#8220;We\u2019ve spent this week supporting one another, including those who are at the studio, as well as friends and colleagues who no longer are.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The team also acknowledged that it has lost &#8220;a lot of [its fans] trust,&#8221; noting that it recognizes the concerns and feedback players have shared regarding Destiny 2 and the mixed reception to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/destiny-2-lightfall-review\">Lightfall expansion<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We know we have lost a lot of your trust,&#8221; Bungie wrote. &#8220;Destiny needs to surprise and delight. We haven&#8217;t done this enough and that&#8217;s going to change.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The blog post comes following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/pete-parsons-tells-employees-bungie-kept-the-right-people-to-work-on-destiny-2\">an IGN report<\/a> earlier this week, where employees told us that Destiny 2 player sentiment was at an all-time low, with employees flagging multiple times to leadership that critical changes were to be made to win players back. <\/p>\n<section data-transform=\"ignvideo\" data-slug=\"destiny-2-the-final-shape-official-reveal-trailer\" data-loop=\"\"><\/section>\n<p>Bungie CEO Pete Parsons told employees that the layoffs were due to Destiny 2&#8217;s underperformance over the last year, as well as the lower-than-expected reorders for The Final Shape expansion. In an internal town hall meeting, IGN learned that Parsons told remaining employees that it had kept &#8220;the right people&#8221; to continue developing post-launch content for Destiny 2.<\/p>\n<p>IGN also previously confirmed that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/bungie-hit-with-lay-offs-as-destiny-2-the-final-shape-and-marathon-are-reportedly-delayed\">The Final Shape has been delayed<\/a> to June 2024, while Marathon has been internally delayed to 2025; today&#8217;s blog post does not acknowledge either. The Final Shape was previously set for Feb. 27, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The blog post, meanwhile, notes that Bungie&#8217;s &#8220;path forward is clear,&#8221; pledging to make The Final Shape expansion &#8220;an &#8220;unforgettable&#8221; experience. The Final Shape was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/bungie-reveals-destiny-2-the-final-shape-details-and-announces-its-replacing-seasonal-format\">revealed this past August<\/a> and will be the final expansion in Destiny 2&#8217;s Light and Darkness Saga. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are intensely focused on exceeding your expectations for The Final Shape,&#8221; Bungie explained. &#8220;Destiny 2 has more than 650 dedicated teammates pouring all their energy and expertise into delivering this epic moment and its subsequent Episodes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<section data-transform=\"divider\"><\/section>\n<p><em>Taylor is a Reporter at IGN.
