{"id":38387,"date":"2023-11-08T13:51:07","date_gmt":"2023-11-08T13:51:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.xtremeservers.com\/blog\/james-bond-owner-didnt-want-another-video-game-until-hitman-developer-pitched-project-007\/"},"modified":"2023-11-08T13:51:07","modified_gmt":"2023-11-08T13:51:07","slug":"james-bond-owner-didnt-want-another-video-game-until-hitman-developer-pitched-project-007","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.xtremeservers.com\/blog\/james-bond-owner-didnt-want-another-video-game-until-hitman-developer-pitched-project-007\/","title":{"rendered":"James Bond Owner Didn&#8217;t Want Another Video Game Until Hitman Developer Pitched Project 007"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<section class=\"article-page\">\n<p>The James Bond rights holders weren&#8217;t interested in making another video game until Hitman developer IO Interactive pitched Project 007.<\/p>\n<section data-transform=\"mobile-ad-break\"><\/section>\n<p>As reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamesradar.com\/before-project-007-was-greenlit-the-hitman-studio-had-to-convince-the-james-bond-rights-holders-to-give-video-game-adaptations-another-shot-they-were-not-looking-for-a-game\/\">GamesRadar<\/a>, IO Interactive co-owners Hakan Abrak and Christian Elverdam told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.awin1.com\/awclick.php?awinmid=2961&amp;awinaffid=103504&amp;clickref=grd-gb-1179639473205452000&amp;p=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.magazinesdirect.com%2Faz-magazines%2F6936449%2Fedge-magazine-subscription.thtml%3Futm_medium%3DAffiliate%26utm_source%3DAwin%26utm_campaign%3DTechRadar%26utm_content%3D103504%26sv1%3Daffiliate%26sv_campaign_id%3D103504%26awc%3D2961_1699383168_0afa4af3246fe9d6c84d2269dbac8f51\">Edge Magazine<\/a> they had a hard time convincing the James Bond owners to let them make a game in that universe, with poorly received recent releases perhaps putting them off.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our impression was clearly that [at the time] they were not looking for a game,&#8221; said Abrak. &#8220;And I think it&#8217;s fair that they might not have been super happy with some of the later games.&#8221;<\/p>\n<section data-transform=\"ignvideo\" data-slug=\"io-interactive-bond-game-project-007-teaser-trailer\" data-loop=\"\"><\/section>\n<p>There hasn&#8217;t been a James Bond release in a while, but the latest two were 2010&#8217;s 007: Blood Stone (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/james-bond-007-blood-stone-review\">which IGN said was mediocre<\/a>) and 2012&#8217;s 007 Legends (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/007-legends-review\">which IGN said was bad<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Compared to these more traditional shooter experiences, Elverdam said IO interactive instead proposed an entry less focused on endless violence and more on being a spy that only took down critical targets, which sounds a lot like the Hitman games.<\/p>\n<p>Project 007 was announced in 2020 but IO interactive still hasn&#8217;t said lots about it. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/hitman-devs-james-bond-game-is-an-original-story-drawing-from-the-franchises-entire-history-ign-unfiltered\">We do know it will have an original story<\/a>, however, and Elverdam has previously called it an &#8220;agent fantasy&#8221;. The developer is also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/hitman-franchise-on-hiatus-as-io-interactive-focuses-on-james-bond-game\">putting Hitman on hiatus while it works on the James Bond game<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It will still have plenty to keep busy with, of course, as IO Interactive announced in February that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/hitman-developer-io-interactive-working-on-an-online-fantasy-rpg\">an online fantasy RPG is also in development at the studio<\/a>. &#8220;We are embarking on a new adventure. One that expands our creativity, our capabilities, and in some sense our identity.
