A sequel, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/games\/theatrhythm-final-bar-line\">Theatrhythm Final Bar Line<\/a>, launched on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 last year, and it\u2019s the Switch version in particular that\u2019s currently unplayable, with players greeted by a black screen that won\u2019t go away.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I restarted the game 6 times but it keeps happening <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/TFBL?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#TFBL<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/THEATRHYTHM?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#THEATRHYTHM<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/NintendoSwitch?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#NintendoSwitch<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/GRNyqU5pP0\">pic.twitter.com\/GRNyqU5pP0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Puri \ud83d\udc3b\u200d\u2744\ufe0f (@puritikuma) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/puritikuma\/status\/1763162804184567814?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 29, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI wanted to boot Theatrhythm to do my dailies,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Regulus_Tera\/status\/1763039257633980555\">X\/Twitter user @Regulus_Tera reported<\/a>, \u201cand the game is not booting up, because it appears the game connects to a Square Enix server for whatever reason even though I have the physical copy. And people ask why I play old games.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>IGN has verified this black screen is indeed present today, but there is a workaround, also verified by IGN. It\u2019s as simple as changing the clock to another date, which in turn sees Theatrhythm Final Fantasy work perfectly.<\/p>\n<p>So, what&#8217;s going on here? According to @SuperDarkMimeIV, Final Bar Line Theatrhythm checks today&#8217;s date to see if it&#8217;s the user&#8217;s birthday, and it&#8217;s this process that&#8217;s causing the game to hang because it doesn&#8217;t know how to search for February 29.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Final Bar Line Theatrhythm checks today&#8217;s date to see if anyone&#8217;s birthday, which gives you a little reward. The problem is, Square-Enix didn&#8217;t code the game to find anything for February 29th, so it just hangs. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Theatrhythm?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Theatrhythm<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/HVqFMg6jKZ\">pic.twitter.com\/HVqFMg6jKZ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Robin64 \ud83c\udf38 (@SuperDarkMimeIV) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SuperDarkMimeIV\/status\/1763184242152894603?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 29, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It\u2019s an embarrassing gaffe for Square Enix, which is hoping for big numbers out of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth following positive reviews. Unfortunately, the number 29 appears to have caused the company a problem. IGN has asked Square Enix for comment.<\/p>\n<p>As you\u2019d expect, the internet is having fun at Square Enix\u2019s expense.
