{"id":56329,"date":"2024-09-23T18:01:15","date_gmt":"2024-09-23T17:01:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.xtremeservers.com\/blog\/baldurs-gate-3-mod-cuts-turn-based-combat-and-makes-everything-real-time\/"},"modified":"2024-09-23T18:01:15","modified_gmt":"2024-09-23T17:01:15","slug":"baldurs-gate-3-mod-cuts-turn-based-combat-and-makes-everything-real-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.xtremeservers.com\/blog\/baldurs-gate-3-mod-cuts-turn-based-combat-and-makes-everything-real-time\/","title":{"rendered":"Baldur&#8217;s Gate 3 Mod Cuts Turn-Based Combat and Makes Everything Real-Time"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<section class=\"article-page\">\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/games\/baldurs-gate-iii\">Baldur&#8217;s Gate 3<\/a> mod removes the role-playing game&#8217;s traditional Dungeons &amp; Dragons turn-based combat in favor of more action-orientated real-time battles.<\/p>\n<section data-transform=\"mobile-ad-break\"><\/section>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/games\/baldurs-gate\/one-baldur-s-gate-3-modder-managed-to-implemented-real-time-combat-like-the-classic-games-but-you-should-probably-wait-for-them-to-figure-out-a-pause-button-before-diving-in\/\">PC Gamer<\/a> spotted the work-in-progress mod from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=nEBW4qIW28c\">tinybike<\/a> on YouTube, and described it as a &#8220;very very very rough draft.&#8221; It does what it says on the tin though, letting players run into Baldur&#8217;s Gate 3 combat and cast spells as quick as their fingers will allow, instead of having to wait their turn.<\/p>\n<p>The video shows tinybike exploring the ruins found early in Act 1 of Baldur&#8217;s Gate 3 and immediately being rushed by the agitated enemy who awaits. But they, alongside the handful of other baddies exploring the ruins, are quickly taken down with a selection of speedy spells.<\/p>\n<section data-transform=\"slideshow\" data-slug=\"the-best-rpg-of-2023\" data-value=\"the-best-rpg-of-2023\" data-type=\"slug\" data-caption=\"\"><\/section>\n<p>Baldur&#8217;s Gate 3 combat can be tricky even with 10 minutes between each move to think about things, of course, so it&#8217;s difficult to imagine how real-time combat would work proper, especially for some more strategically driven classes like the Rogue. Regardless, mods will seemingly make it a viable option in the future, so those looking to explore Faer\u00fbn without a pause button can seemingly soon do so.<\/p>\n<p>Baldur&#8217;s Gate 3 mods have increased in prominence thanks to developer Larian Studios releasing an official toolkit for the game, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/baldurs-gate-3-modder-unlocks-complete-dev-toolkit-to-create-entirely-new-campaigns-and-content\">this was quickly broken<\/a> to let players make <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/baldurs-gate-3-modder-reveals-first-custom-maps-including-avernus\">fully custom maps<\/a> and more.<\/p>\n<p>The toolkit arrived alongside Patch 7, which added lots of other content including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/karlach-is-trending-on-xtwitter-after-baldurs-gate-3-patch-7-because-her-new-evil-ending-is-absolutely-metal\">an &#8220;absolutely metal&#8221; ending for Karlach<\/a> and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/baldurs-gate-3-player-finds-scrapped-evil-ending-in-patch-7-thats-hilariously-anticlimactic\">hidden evil ending<\/a>. Players will also be relieved to hear that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/baldurs-gate-3-patch-7-is-not-the-final-update-larian-confirms-but-it-doesnt-want-to-talk-about-whats-coming-just-yet\">it&#8217;s not the final Baldur&#8217;s Gate 3 patch after all<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/baldurs-gate-3-review\">In our 10\/10 review of the game<\/a>, IGN said: &#8220;With crunchy, tactical RPG combat, a memorable story with complex characters, highly polished cinematic presentation, and a world that always rewards exploration and creativity, Baldur&#8217;s Gate 3 is the new high-water mark for CRPGs.&#8221;<\/p>\n<section data-transform=\"divider\"><\/section>\n<p><em>Ryan Dinsdale is an IGN freelance reporter.
