{"id":56400,"date":"2024-09-24T15:00:35","date_gmt":"2024-09-24T14:00:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.xtremeservers.com\/blog\/god-of-war-ragnarok-mod-removes-controversial-psn-requirement-and-its-creator-has-vowed-to-maintain-it\/"},"modified":"2024-09-24T15:00:35","modified_gmt":"2024-09-24T14:00:35","slug":"god-of-war-ragnarok-mod-removes-controversial-psn-requirement-and-its-creator-has-vowed-to-maintain-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.xtremeservers.com\/blog\/god-of-war-ragnarok-mod-removes-controversial-psn-requirement-and-its-creator-has-vowed-to-maintain-it\/","title":{"rendered":"God of War Ragnarok Mod Removes Controversial PSN Requirement \u2014 and Its Creator Has Vowed to Maintain It"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<section class=\"article-page\">\n<p>Just days after PlayStation game <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/games\/god-of-war-ragnarok\">God of War Ragnarok<\/a> launched on PC to a \u2018mixed\u2019 Steam user review rating <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/god-of-war-ragnark-launches-to-mixed-steam-user-reviews-with-most-complaining-about-the-playstation-network-account-requirement\">over its forced PlayStation Network account linking<\/a>, a mod has been released that bypasses the requirement entirely.<\/p>\n<section data-transform=\"mobile-ad-break\"><\/section>\n<p>Sony had made it clear on the God of War Ragnarok Steam page that a PlayStation Network account would be required to play Sony Santa Monica\u2019s purely single-player adventure, but that failed to prevent a number of negative reviews singling out the policy.<\/p>\n<p>While God of War Ragnarok\u2019s Steam user review rating is now up to \u2018mostly positive,\u2019 one modder has decided to take matters into their own hands by stripping out the PSN requirement.<\/p>\n<section data-transform=\"slideshow\" data-slug=\"god-of-war-games-in-chronological-order\" data-value=\"god-of-war-games-in-chronological-order\" data-type=\"slug\" data-caption=\"\"><\/section>\n<p>iArtorias\u2019 NoPSSDK mod, which has been downloaded 1,764 times from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nexusmods.com\/godofwarragnarok\/mods\/22\">Nexus Mods<\/a> at the time of this article\u2019s publication, \u201cfully strips the PlayStation PC SDK runtime requirement for God of War Ragnarok.\u201d But because the mod removes the PSN overlay from the game and mimicks an offline mode in the process, it&#8217;s being used to bypass the PSN \/ Steam account linking requirement. IGN has verified the mod does indeed work.<\/p>\n<p>In a post on Nexus Mods, iArtorias vowed to maintain their mod even if Sony updates God of War Ragnarok to combat it. \u201cI will try to maintain the tool even if something changes, but hopefully nothing crucial happens,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n<section data-transform=\"image-with-caption\" data-image-url=\"https:\/\/assets-prd.ignimgs.com\/2024\/09\/24\/vlc-ovuwwd0tyi-1727173697312.png\" data-image-title=\"null\" data-image-class=\"article-image-full-size\" data-image-link=\"https:\/\/assets-prd.ignimgs.com\/2024\/09\/24\/vlc-ovuwwd0tyi-1727173697312.png\" data-caption=\"iArtorias%26%2339%3B%20mod%20lets%20players%20bypass%20God%20of%20War%20Ragnarok%E2%80%99s%20PSN%20account%20linking%20requirement.\"><\/section>\n<\/section>\n<p>Sony will no doubt take a dim view of iArtorias\u2019 mod, which is picking up Steam as more and more players download it. There are also calls for a similar mod for Sony\u2019s other recently released PC games, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/games\/ghost-of-tsushima\">Ghost of Tsushima<\/a>. Ghost of Tsushima requires a PSN account for the Legends online multiplayer mode and to use PlayStation overlay, but it is not required to play the single-player game, which makes Sony\u2019s decision to enforce a PSN requirement on the purely single-player God of War Ragnarok all the more baffling.<\/p>\n<section data-transform=\"poll\" data-id=\"24c1df57-fa77-4d74-8eac-61ab846fe63e\"><\/section>\n<p>Sony\u2019s PSN account requirement for its PC games was thrust into the limelight with the release of Arrowhead\u2019s explosive PC and PS5 co-op shooter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/games\/helldivers-ii\"><u>Helldivers 2<\/u><\/a> earlier this year. Helldivers 2 suffered a review bomb campaign on Steam after Sony made PSN accounts mandatory for PC gamers on Valve\u2019s platform (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/helldivers-2-psn-review-bomb-cape-mia-as-arrowhead-awaits-clarity-on-game-being-sold-in-more-countries\"><u>Arrowhead subsequently decided to turn the Steam user review history graph into a cape, which is ready for launch but has yet to release<\/u><\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/playstation-reverses-course-on-helldivers-2-psn-account-requirement\"><u>Sony eventually backed down and reversed Helldivers 2\u2019s PSN account requirement<\/u><\/a>, but the game remains unavailable in the many countries that lack PSN.
