{"id":57175,"date":"2024-10-07T18:01:58","date_gmt":"2024-10-07T17:01:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.xtremeservers.com\/blog\/halos-move-to-unreal-engine-5-would-make-a-ps5-version-easier-to-achieve-tech-experts-say\/"},"modified":"2024-10-07T18:01:58","modified_gmt":"2024-10-07T17:01:58","slug":"halos-move-to-unreal-engine-5-would-make-a-ps5-version-easier-to-achieve-tech-experts-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.xtremeservers.com\/blog\/halos-move-to-unreal-engine-5-would-make-a-ps5-version-easier-to-achieve-tech-experts-say\/","title":{"rendered":"Halo\u2019s Move to Unreal Engine 5 Would Make a PS5 Version Easier to Achieve, Tech Experts Say"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<section class=\"article-page\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/future-halo-games-moving-to-unreal-engine-as-developer-343-industries-officially-changes-its-name\">Halo\u2019s move to Unreal Engine 5<\/a> would make it easier for developer Halo Studios, n\u00e9e 343 Industries, to take Xbox\u2019s flagship first-person shooter multi-platform, including a launch on PlayStation 5, tech experts have said.<\/p>\n<section data-transform=\"mobile-ad-break\"><\/section>\n<p>Speaking to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/what-halo-on-unreal-engine-5-means-for-ps5\">Eurogamer<\/a>, Digital Foundry chief Richard Leadbetter said moving to Unreal 5 makes for \u201ceasier\u201d multi-platform development than porting across the existing Slipspace engine.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It stands to reason that an engine designed for deployment across multiple platforms would be easier to work with than existing technology built for Xbox and PC,\u201d Leadbetter said.<\/p>\n<section data-transform=\"slideshow\" data-slug=\"halo-studios-unreal-engine-screenshots-revealed\" data-value=\"halo-studios-unreal-engine-screenshots-revealed\" data-type=\"slug\" data-caption=\"\"><\/section>\n<p>While Microsoft\u2019s multi-platform video game push has seen the likes of Rare\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/games\/sea-of-thieves\">Sea of Thieves<\/a> and Obsidian\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/games\/grounded\">Grounded<\/a> make the jump to PS5, the company has yet to announce any Halo game for a non-Xbox console.<\/p>\n<p>Despite a backlash from some hardcore Xbox fans, Microsoft\u2019s multi-platform push appears to have been a success. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/after-rares-sea-of-thieves-tops-the-ps5-sales-chart-whats-the-next-xbox-game-to-go-multiplatform\"><u>Sea of Thieves<\/u>, for example, topped Sony&#8217;s sales chart earlier this year<\/a>, and Xbox boss Phil Spencer has said the company\u2019s franchises are stronger for heading to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed more PS5 launches are coming, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/games\/indiana-jones-and-the-great-circle\">Indiana Jones and the Great Circle<\/a>, albeit a few months after MachineGames\u2019 adventure hits PC and Xbox, and id Software\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/doom-the-dark-ages-announced-confirmed-for-ps5-xbox-games-showcase-2024\"><u>Doom: The Dark Ages<\/u><\/a>. Could Halo be next?<\/p>\n<section data-transform=\"poll\" data-id=\"b4194d66-95e7-4809-aa8d-236350bfdd43\"><\/section>\n<p>In August, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/xbox-boss-phil-spencer-explains-decision-to-launch-indiana-jones-and-the-great-circle-on-ps5\">Spencer said Xbox\u2019s multi-platform push is in part about bringing in more money to Microsoft\u2019s gaming business<\/a> \u2014 with the pressure now on to deliver following Microsoft\u2019s eye-watering $69 billion acquisition of Call of Duty maker Activision Blizzard last year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c&#8230; we run a business,\u201d Spencer said. \u201cIt\u2019s definitely true inside of Microsoft the bar is high for us in terms of the delivery we have to give back to the company. Because we get a level of support from the company that\u2019s just amazing and what we\u2019re able to go do.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo I look at this, how can we make our games as strong as possible? Our platform continues to grow, on console, on PC, and on cloud. It\u2019s just going to be a strategy that works for us.\u201d<\/p>\n<section data-transform=\"ignvideo\" data-slug=\"halo-studios-unreal-engine-update-trailer\" data-loop=\"\"><\/section>\n<p>Microsoft has so-far used older games released over a year ago for its multi-platform push as opposed to brand new games, but that will soon change with the release of Indiana Jones. The most dramatic move would be to bring Halo to PlayStation, given the shooter&#8217;s symbiotic relationship with Xbox. But would Microsoft actually go through with it? As former Xbox boss Peter Moore recently told IGN, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/microsoft-will-be-debating-right-now-whether-xbox-consoles-have-a-future-says-peter-moore\"><u>Microsoft will be debating whether to bring Halo to PlayStation as we speak<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Halo&#8217;s shift to Unreal comes amid a tumultuous time for Xbox that has seen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/microsoft-lays-off-another-650-staff-from-its-video-game-workforce-xbox-boss-phil-spencer-sends-memo-to-staff\">an eye-watering 2,550 staff cut from the gaming business this year<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/microsoft-closes-redfall-developer-arkane-austin-hifi-rush-developer-tango-gameworks-and-more-in-devastating-cuts-at-bethesda\"><u>multiple studio closures<\/u><\/a>.
