We got to make a game, with our own story, set inside the \u201cTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles\u201d world. And if you read the above, you know we really got to make <em>our<\/em> story.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.xbox.com\/en-US\/games\/store\/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-tactical-takedown\/9N0BWMT6RKFR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TMNT: Tactical Takedown<\/a><\/em> began its life as a totally different game, well, kind of. I\u2019ll let Xalavier Nelson Jr, our Studio Head tell you. \u201c<em>Teenage Demon Slayer Society<\/em>, another Strange Scaffold project, was the origin of our journey adapting action game mechanics to a turn-based format.\u201d This game served as a jumping off point, letting the team hit the ground running even faster when <em>Tactical Takedown<\/em> began development. \u201cWhile that project is still in development, we\u2019re incredibly glad that its technology got to result in <em>TMNT: Tactical Takedown<\/em> existing, and coming out sooner than later!\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" src=\"https:\/\/xboxwire.thesourcemediaassets.com\/sites\/2\/2025\/08\/TMNTTTXbox02-0646cd6e407f8c04674d.jpg\" alt=\"TMNT TT screenshot\" class=\"wp-image-210729\" srcset=\"https:\/\/xboxwire.thesourcemediaassets.com\/sites\/2\/2025\/08\/TMNTTTXbox02-0646cd6e407f8c04674d.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/xboxwire.thesourcemediaassets.com\/sites\/2\/2025\/08\/TMNTTTXbox02-0646cd6e407f8c04674d-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/xboxwire.thesourcemediaassets.com\/sites\/2\/2025\/08\/TMNTTTXbox02-0646cd6e407f8c04674d-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/xboxwire.thesourcemediaassets.com\/sites\/2\/2025\/08\/TMNTTTXbox02-0646cd6e407f8c04674d-1536x864.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe game has a more focused scope and scale than most <em>TMNT<\/em> projects, we had really exciting conversations with Paramount about that giving us the freedom to pursue large, bold creative leaps.\u201d Xalavier noted, \u201cSo, we took the biggest leap we could\u2013with the Turtles on the cusp of adulthood, in a world where Splinter and Shredder are both dead. Paramount signed off without a single note and the rest is history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bringing in a new leader for The Foot Clan had a natural choice, to us, in Karai but they are teaming them with Baxter Stockman? \u201cKarai is a complex character. She\u2019s ambitious, but forever in Shredder\u2019s shadow. She\u2019s honorable, but ruthless.\u201d, Michael Futter, Licensing Producer on the game, \u201cTeaming her up with Baxter Stockman may seem like a curious choice, and players will need to experience the game to understand why she\u2019s thrown in with him. Not all is as it seems\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" src=\"https:\/\/xboxwire.thesourcemediaassets.com\/sites\/2\/2025\/08\/TMNTTTXbox10-6a2fe455be00037c4cad.jpg\" alt=\"TMNT TT screenshot\" class=\"wp-image-210731\" srcset=\"https:\/\/xboxwire.thesourcemediaassets.com\/sites\/2\/2025\/08\/TMNTTTXbox10-6a2fe455be00037c4cad.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/xboxwire.thesourcemediaassets.com\/sites\/2\/2025\/08\/TMNTTTXbox10-6a2fe455be00037c4cad-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/xboxwire.thesourcemediaassets.com\/sites\/2\/2025\/08\/TMNTTTXbox10-6a2fe455be00037c4cad-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/xboxwire.thesourcemediaassets.com\/sites\/2\/2025\/08\/TMNTTTXbox10-6a2fe455be00037c4cad-1536x864.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\"><\/figure>\n<p>An interesting challenge was translating the feeling of each Turtle to a tactical combat system. \u201cTom Vinita, our game\u2019s lead designer, did an excellent job in identifying early on what the brothers would need in order to feel different from one another without overloading the player with too much information (or making the moves too difficult to understand).\u201d, Amanda Farough, Executive Producer on the game noted, \u201cHe struck those chords relatively early on, allowing our level designer, Aubrey Rugroden, to build out the individual \u2018biomes\u2019 with each of the Turtles\u2019 moves allowed to shine through.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another question for the team was how can you marry the more fast-paced feeling that the <em>TMNT<\/em> are known for with what is traditionally a slower genre? \u201cThe real tricky bit\u201d, Amanda went on to explain, \u201cwas finding the right rhythm in balancing the game\u2019s methodical tactical rhythms with its fast-paced beat-em-up elements. New enemies and new problems will require you to rethink your strategies while also customizing your Turtles loadout to create the perfect moveset for the challenge ahead of you.<\/p>\n<p>We were incredibly fortunate to get to make a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game that was still very much a Strange Scaffold game, as Xalavier noted the game featured \u201cEccentric, player-first decisions.\u201d which is always a hallmark in a Scaffold game. \u201cWe didn\u2019t put any polish or feature in the game unless it fit the scope of what our team could make\u2013and would be directly visible to players.
