In 1996, id Software smashed through to another dimension \u2013 in one sense of the word, pioneering first-person shooters in the third dimension with the release of Quake<\/a>, and in another, hurtling players feet-first into Quake\u2019s otherworldly realm \u2013 a place beyond our reality where kinetic combat and a moody eldritch setting took FPS players to new heights.<\/p>\n

30 years later, Quake has inspired countless hours played and frags tallied locally or online in Deathmatch, not to mention real-world connections and a major role in the rise of FPS esports with QuakeCon, North America\u2019s largest LAN party (also celebrating the big 3-0 this year!).
